Cups 17" vs Fuchs 16 "

17 inch Cups to 16 inch Fuchs
Hi I'm a relative newbie - first time P car owner with a 3.2 1989

I bought my car with 17 inch Cups
front 205's and rear 255's. Bridgestone SO2's

Finally located a set of 7 and 8 Fuchs the 8's are off a 930 Turbo and have a deep dish :-))...these Fuchs, which have just been reconditioned and look great.

Here in HK I can only find Yokahama, Dunlop or Bridgestone's in...
front 205 and rear 225 ( wanted 245's) but none here also dont really want to roll my lips or take a chance.

Considering the difference in tire size what will the difference in ride and grip - not noticeable, very noticeable ?...has anyone done this and regretted it ?

Currently ....Cups
the Fuchs shot is a photoshop image no idea of the tire size...
Am I doing the right thing pls advise ...cheers

I have 245's on 9x17 Fuchs in the rear and I'm not even close to rolling the lips. I don't know if the 245 would fit on an 8 inch wide wheel, though.

I'm biased, but the Fuchs are the only wheel that I really like on these cars. I could make do with the 17 inch Fiskes, or maybe BBS's, but I realy don't like the cups.

Of those 2 pics I will take the fuchs. Just get some 17" fuchs to seal the deal.
Even better 18" fuchs HMMMMMM.... if somebody made them.

You should not have a problem with 245's I think there are even some running 275 with SC flare. Not sure if there rolled or not though.

With your stock ride hieght you'll have plenty of room for either. I'm with Zoanas, only Fuchs float my boat. I have 7's and 8's myself and I love the look.

I'm running 245/45 and 225/45 on 16x8s and 7s.....lower than stock height and no roll on the lip.....

As far as looks go, definitely the Fuchs! The wheels you photoshopped on are 6s and 8s, not 7s and 8s. Your '89 came stock with the 6s and 8s, so no big deal.

245s will fit the rear 8s perfectly, I ran the Yokohama AVS ES100s like that. Now running Kumho MXs 225.

Rick (Zoanas) you have 16s, not 17s :)

DOH!!!

What a putz. Of course I have 16's... Thanks Chris.

But the 9's look so sweet they feel like 17's :)

(note the reflection of k911sc & vash in my door - the parking order represents the usual fun-run order as well :))

Thanks guys
Problem is no 245's in Hong Kong so will have to settle for 225 thanks allot

UPS doesn't deliver?

Rad Hatter 04-21-2006 05:20 PM

Yep if I were to pay 400 usd :(

Rad Hatter 04-21-2006 08:03 PM

Thanks guys,

Well I Decided to go with the following set up:

Yokohama AD-07 16 inch 205 /55 /16 and 225 /50 /16

The prices here incidentally for interest are:

USD 147.70 each for the fronts
USD 174 each for the rears.

No VAT in Hong Kong.

The Fuchs were USD 385 to buy (all 4 !!) and USD 256 to restore (all four) labour is relatively inexpensive here.
total cost USD 1283.
Managed to sell the Mint 17 inch Cups with like new SO2's
for 550 USD so not bad.

The Dunlop 8000's and S03's are similarly priced.

The tire shop recommended this brand for HK's appauling road surface and twisty's. The SO3's on the car now are 6 years old and look hardly worn but then again the car has only done 6,000 kmns in six years ! ha..:-))

Will do the switch later today and will run the same route as last Sunday and report any significant handling difference.

Thinking I might have a regret factor dropping a size ie...
It's a trade off the Cups just dont look correct but the handling is excellent (although I have not driven on std set up, so what do I know) nothing to compare with ....BUT as the current 17 inch 205/255 set up is amazing...just the CUPS look rediculous on the car and Im a purist...well lets see I might be wrong might be just great afterall that was how it was designed right?

F1 top grade Petrol just went up to USD 1.82 a litre last night here...:-(( Cheers
