grease on ivory headliner

hello all,

posted this topic in the cleaning category, but it's not very active. I got some grease on my ivory colored headliner-swapped out the old cables. What should i use to clean it? Any suggestions.

best, paul.

Dealerships have used "Brake Kleen" for many years to clean grease from interiors. The spray dissolves grease almost instantly. Spray and blot. Repeat if necessary. You want the spray to do the work as much as possible (not the cleaning cloth). Do your best not to rub the grease into the fabric. I've used many times with success.

As always try a bit in an inconspicuous area to insure compatibility. Good luck.

Try hot water with some orange degreaser. Blot don't rub, like Rick said. I'd be concerned that brake cleaner may remove the color, but I know his advice is excellent!

Folex carpet and upholstery cleaner is great for this exact problem. YMMV

Thanks Doug.

Regarding the color; I've never had the dye from carpet or fabric come off when using. But it's always worth using on a test area first. Also, I've use it on jeans or other clothes and it works great. Someone once told me it's what many dry cleaners use....who knows.

Carbona, if you can find it. Works great but contains carbon-tetrachloride, so open the windows and avoid inhalation.

I've used BlueMagic leather and vinyl cleaner for grease and even shoe polish on carpeting. You can find it at NAPA, part # is 800. That or I'd use citrus hand cleaner, works like magic, gentle on everything!
