Porsche Crest 77 or 78 911SC

New owner.....seems like a stupid question, but I have to ask. My car is a '77 911SC targa. Every book and part catalog says the SC's didn't start till '78. Is the title wrong?? Thanks for the info.

Well, they started building the SC model year '78s in '77. My '78 is an early car built in '77 but it is still considered a '78. What's the VIN?

It's a 911S, 1977.

Thanks DaveE.....a couple more questions
1 Why does it have the 911SC logo on the back engine hood?
2 Why does it have it on the title?
3 What's the difference between 911SC and 911S
I'll try to attach a photo later. Runs great, small oil leaks, but
AN ABSOULUTE BLAST TO DRIVE!
Thanks again.

1. I don't know. Could have the deck lid from an SC or someone could have re-badged it.
2. I don't know.
3. The SC was introduced for the '78 model year with a 3.0 liter engine with aluminum crankcase, replacing the magnesium used on the 2.7 liter on the earlier cars. The SC has flared rear quarter panels and had wider wheels and tires in the rear than the front. What's your engine #?
A picture would help.

Click a pic of the engine while you are at it.

I think you have to resize it or something, that's why it's all black.

JUst to help you out, do a search on "Mid Year" and you'll be able to tell if your car looks like them or looks like an SC.

Look for the engine #....it's near the engine serial #. Down on the right side of the crank pulley.

The emissions sticker on your engine is consistent with it being a '77 911S 2.7l and not a 911SC 3.0l. The title info is wrong for who knows why. PA doesn't have model year info or model for either of my '65 911 or 912. For the 912 it is simply titled as a Porsche sedan. I wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy your fine car. And read up here about the mid-years. They have quite a following for sure.

Thanks DaveE......I'm starting a few projects on this car this weekend (valve covers, sump plate, oil level sender) so I'm sure I'll need some more help.

Thanks again
