Hi all,
This is my first post after lurking here on the forum (about 2 years now) and reading everyone's great advice regarding just about every Porsche related question I've ever had! Hopefully this will be a simple one for you all. My first question is for those with some Dansk Pre-Muffler experience. I recently purchased a Dansk (euro pre-muffler) "sport muffler" UNFORTUNATELY from another vendor which I won't mention... YET! There was about a $200 price difference which justified going the non-pelican route. Now to make a long story short - after receiving this muffler in it's factory sealed box I opended it only to find what I believe are defects and poor workmanship with the welds and anomolies in the path of exhaust flow. I was wondering if anyone could offer up some advice as to the condition of this muffler and if this is within the scope of Dansk quality. I was told by the other vendor that these flaws were within Dansk specification!?!?! Never mind the fact I TOLD THEM I was unhappy with the product and could I get an exchange or my money back. "Nope," they say, because one of their inspectors said it the muffler is his opinion appears to be ok. I completely disagree, Hmmm... Now what to do????

Looks like a factory reject which probably explains the lower price. Perhaps if you had bought from PP you might get some help here. There is a board member on here by the screen name of Danskman who sells the Dansk product here in the U.S. and could confirm that you bought a factory reject.

What Kurt said, although I think I'd be tempted to just go in there with a die grinder, or even a file, and clean things up.

Cliyde... We (Dansk) would definitely warranty that item if it was bought through one of our distributors. I have a similar picture of the one I installed on my car, and it does not look like this, and I have not seen one like this before. If you don't want to post who you bought it from , PM me and we can go from there. Regardless, I'll make sure you're taken care of. If you did make some type of purchase that afforded you a huge discount and there is no recourse, I would agree that the item could be cleaned up pretty easily. Either way, please let me know.
Thanks.

This is not high speed gas flow & I wouldn't be worried about that impacting the flow rates. I might be worried about what I couldn't see tho.

Mike the "Danskman" is a stand-up guy. Every time I see a post with a Dansk-related gripe, he jumps in and tries to make good!

cliyde... The replacement premuff was shipped to you yesterday. You should have it shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience, and let me know if you need any further help.
Wavey - yup. She's a gone. Ended up being a local guy, so the transaction went incredibly smooth. The garage just looks weird now.

Well... I just received my replacement pre-muffler from Performance Prodsucks today. But before I get to that, I still need to give a big Thanks to Danskman for helping me out in dealing with them. So in no way do I hold him responsible...
My Dansk replacement from Poorformance is just as shoddy as the first with the exact same internal anomalies in the path of exhaust flow, including crappy welds @ the seams. LITERALLY, my pics above are almost identical to this new one, and I can assure you it's a different muffler. BUYER BEWARE: Take it from me, it's not worth the money you save to buy this pre-muffler from Performance as I believe they are selling rejects which need modification before install. Hence the price difference from our host. MY ADVICE: STICK WITH PELICAN as I'm sure this would not be the case had I ordered it here.

Cliyde... If the problems you mentioned in your original post exist on the replacement item, then we have a production problem. It has nothing to do with the supplier. Performance Products is a customer of Dansk, and they buy from us directly. They are not selling rejects, or any second-quality Dansk products. I am going to contact our production manager in Denmark and discuss the issue with him. I'll let you know what I find out. In the mean time, this issue should not effect performance at all. Keep the one you have, and we will replace it once I get this sorted out. We've not had a problem with this item before, so I need to check into it before I make any comments on how it happened. Thanks for your patience.

hope I haven't opened up a can of worms here... I'll admit there's certainly been a soured taste left after dealing with the other vendor who was NO help at all, which only lead me to speculate... That being said, the muffler can be fixed in my opinion and I've since decided to go ahead and tackle those issues with a file and dremmel, so no worries on that. FYI: My thoughts after studying both mufflers, the main problem I have is with the Bung (O2 sensor) opening to the interior. It appears as if the opening is punctured and the extra metal (fractured) is just allowed to hang down into the exhaust flow. Hope this helps and sorry to cause any commotion.

As to the price issue, I'm not even sure we're comparing apples to apples. Yes, the part listed by Pelican is $200 more than the Performance part, but I seem to recall that much of Dansk's line is available in different levels of polish-so does that account for the difference?
As to the bung stamping, yeah, its ugly. Its probably supposed to be ground before welding and it didn't happen. I wouldn't sweat it. The welds don't look bad to me.
