Engine smoking after shutdown
 

Hello all

My 911's been sitting for some time, and I've recently started driving it again because of the gas prices. Changed the oil(thanks for everyone's help on that) and checked all the connections, everything seems to be fine. However, when I turn the car off, I get a wispy whitish-grey smoke coming from inside the fan housing coming up through the blades. It's not a lot, and doesn't last long, but I'm worried that I might be screwing something up. Or it's just excess oil burning off, I'm not sure. All the guages read ok, and I don't have any warning lights, so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. Oh, and I've searched the forum, and couldn't find anything that really pertains. When I first started running it, it was smoking like a monster, but that's stopped, and it's running really smooth now, just has that "shutoff smoke" coming from the engine.

Btw, it's a '73 T with MFI

I don't know but I was curious. If you started driving your Pcar now because of current gas prices, what were you driving before? A Hummer? A 65 Cadillac? A schoolbus?

nothing to worry about. just residual oil that has accumulated on top of the heat exchangers smoking off. if you continue to drive it on a regular basis, it will eventually disappear. or better yet after 1 track day - all gone.
not sure why the current gas prices would trigger your driving, as my 73 only gets 16-18 mgp

I thought it probably was just residual oil, was worried I could've smoked the rings or gaskets or something. Maybe they were burning.

I was driving an 2004 Titan which was getting about 15mpg in the city. I had to fill up about once every week and the prices were just killing me. Figured the Porsche, which I believe is getting better than 18mpg is more fun to drive, and slightly more economical.
