Hi Ime a NEW boy!

Only had my new play thing a few weeks (see photo) I am so so so chufffed with it after driving 250+ miles to collect it without viewing it (had hpi and milage and reg check) I know it woz a gamble but it more than paid off !Its a 1988 (89) model year 911 carrera sport in gp white with mint blue/white pinstripe club sport (i believe) interior, loads of options, full service history, 4 previous owners, only covered about 2000miles in the last 5 years etc etc. I have fixed the hot air fan and footwell motors (fuses blown in footwells and rear motor seized) now about to replace cold air fan To make the heating tip-top as i had to on my last 1987 carrera targa so found it easyish! My only slight consern in a whine from the gearbox/diff when i lift of the throttle in all gears over 20mph and the oil presure guage that has been fine until today (meaning its above 1 at tickover and rises to 5 @ 5000rpm) now goes straight to 3 bounces about a bit then to 4 then back to 3 bla bla bla ! It hasnt tacken the smile off my face but some small reassurance its not about to die would be great !Thanks !http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146002094.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146002152.jpg

Obviously I am very fond of GPW. But I really dig the pinstripe interior too. Very nice !

Hi Matt

Welcome to the forum from a fellow UK pelican - just start searching using some relevant words and you will find more than you can ever read through on virtually every subject you care to investigate, I remember I lost whole days when I first discovered pelican.

Good luck with all your projects - seems you have a nice car to get you going

e-speedster 04-26-2006 08:59 AM

Welcome - GPW - can't go wrong there :)

The search button/criteria has just been modified and will probably suit all your needs on your oil pressure thing and so on

Btw - half my speedster comes from design911 in uk - good company

Carl83911 04-26-2006 09:09 AM

Nice!!! But, why do some people take pics of a mirror reflection.

defcon65 04-26-2006 09:30 AM

Hey! I like those seats! Nice car, Matt.

Nice car, but I've always wondered why you guys drive on the wrong side of the road.;)

Now that I'm thinking about it, your right foot is centered more.

Your left foot has nothing to brace to?

Can you describe the differences in more detail than that?

I'm just curious no offense intended.:)

There's plenty of mechanical noises to be heard in a 911, I wouldn't worry too much about the whine especially on decel.

Try wiggling the wires at the oil pressure sender.

Don't other RHD cars have key on the right side? The interior is not a mirror image, imagine putting the steering column of any "normal" car on the passenger side, the ignition would still be on the right. Same as the pedal assembly. It's just with the LHD Porsches that we need to get accustomed to using the different hand. :)

MATT88carrera 04-26-2006 03:57 PM

The real reason for the keys being on the "right" side is . . . . . . . . When you need to make a quick get-away you can get the car in gear at the same time as turning the key . . . . . . (thats my theory). I only drive on the wrong side when clipping the apex !!!!!!!!!! Dont think there is one rhd car that i know of with the key on the left of the wheel, that would be weird ! :)

wow, nice!

CharlesJones 04-26-2006 04:39 PM

That's a gorgeous looking car - I love white 911s, especially if they have the Carrera script down the side which I'd definately add if it were mine.

You had some guts buying it without seeing it first. I once bought a car without seeing it first - via ebay actually - and that worked out fine.

MATT88carrera 04-27-2006 09:45 AM

It wos a gamble but the chap wos willing to hold the car for a week without a deposit so i could of just turned away ! BUT as it turned out when he wheeled it out of the garage it took all my nerve to not get over excited because it wos SO much better than he discribed and the drive home wos one i will never forget, I woz like a big kid playing nervous for the first time ! Plus when i got there to pick it up he'd kindly put 6 months on it ! He wos such a nice bloke i didn't even have the heart to knock him down as i really don't think he knew wot a car he wos letting go for such a reasonable price. The Auto Gods were giving me a GOOD day ! On the oil presure thing . . . . just removed the wires cleaned the terminals and now everything is back to normal ! Thanks for the advice on an easy fix ! PS Just thought i would add a pick of my 87 targa and a couple of picks of my 88 !http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146156213.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146156279.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146156320.jpg

hbkramer 04-27-2006 10:03 AM

Very nice, Now you need to save a more pounds for 7 & 9" Fuchs

MATT88carrera 04-27-2006 10:34 AM

7s & 9s would be the nuts but 1, theree becoming rare and 2, when they do pop up theree a fortune ! Would really like to lower the car an 25-30mm but after reading a few threads there is more to it then just lowering ! Plus the car drives so well ime just a tad worried it will upset the feel ! OH WOT TO DO ?

vesnyder 04-27-2006 12:36 PM

Welcome aboard! And nice stable of cars there - all you need is a cab to round out the set! Thinking about driving a 911 with the steering wheel and shifter and pedals reversed would throw me - I had a hard enough time with an automatic in England!

Have fun!
