TD just canceled my insurance

Get this one.
I just called TD insurance to put on collision so that I can bring my car out of storage.
New policy.
No collision until I get it appraised.
How do I get it in for an appraisal?
Not our problem.
No notice nothing.
Just new policy.

Do you belong to a local PCA? If so, they should be able to direct you to an appraiser. Fuch'em, I say. Go to someone else for insurance!
Looks like it's a good time to shop around.

They obviously do not care about you.

I would not want to give them any of my money.

I can get an appraisal and probably should.
All I asked was how about temporary collision so I can take it in.
They hung me out to dry with no notice.

Shop around. Some insurance companies will say just about anything to get you out of their risk pool for whatever reason they can rationalize. Find an agent who works for a company that wants to write you the policy you need, not just take your money and jack you with exclusions. They are out there but I'm not naming names.

Hi Rod

Don't feel alone - I'm a senior manager for TD Bank (a sister company) and they gave me a hard time on the same issue - I had to get an appraisal done.

As an aside, I tried to shop around and most companied will not insure cars older than an 86'. I think that the insurance industry has given up on classic cars.

Contact: Bruce.Farrow@pcaucr.org - He is the appraisals chair for our PCA chapter.

I had my car appraised for a couple of hundred bucks.

Best of luck

This could work out in a good way too. It stinks that they have treated you this way but if the car is appraised at $15,000 (or whatever), then they can't try to total it out for a lower figure. They insisted that you get it appraised so get the highest appraisal you possibly can. Clean it up and polish the piss out of it.

PCA offers appraisals for its members. Just go to the PCA website and follow the links.

How does this change? Did you think you were covered if you balled the car up on the track before??

Cheers

I just got an 85 Cab and needed an appraisal for transfer of ownership in Ontario. Reason: over 20 years old. I got insurance without the appraisal but only liability. After the appraisal they added collision and comp.

This is a lot more common than you think. The same thing happened to me with my insurance company when I went to put collision on.

After explaining that I have been a customer for nearly 20 years the supervisor said "no-problem" and added it.

She then went on to explain that if you add/subtract/add collision coverage or delay adding collision after starting off with jus the basics it raises a risk flag in their assessment programs.

I'm w/ RBC and they required an appraisal from the get-go. I used Bruce Farrow here in SW Ontario.

PITA but necessary if you want to get proper conpensation if your car gets totalled. With the appraisal you get an 'Agreed Value of Automobile, OPCF 19A' attached to your policy which reflects the appraisal value of your car.

Mine is for $31K and I pay $68/ month when she's on the road.

Another word of caution: DO NOT mention that you track your car. They will either (a) not insure you, (b) jack up your rate astronomically, or (c) do (b) and not give you an OPCF 19A' for your car.

If you do track you are basically taking your chances.

Hope this helps,
Kato

Hey Rod, before I went to Silver Wheels I was fully insured with CAA. The only thing was I had to do was to get an appraisal. I paid $900 per year.

You guys have been busy!
My point here was that they just dropped this on me with no notice.
I have taken the collision off every winter for 5 years.
Driver's Ed was covered under my insurance.
I had a discussion with them the first time I went.
I explained the event to them (supervisor) and they told me they are aware of PCA DE and they will cover me. I had them place this commitment in my file.
So you guys run your cars on the track without insurance?
Rod

Rod,
In case you need to, there's some appraisers that will come out to where the car is. I did mine this way and it was $125 Cdn everthing included. Let me know if you need the one I used. He was based out of the west end of the GTA, but will travel for a small fee (did stuff as far as Ottawa on request).
