Bilsteins vs. Konis
I had my car stripped and repainted over the winter and also upsized my wheels to 16x7 Fuchs. The next project on my list is lowering to euro height and adding a turbo tie rod kit, alignment and corner balance. My car currently has Koni shocks (original) that probably could stand to be replaced.
Most things I have read said that the standard “upgrade” is to go to Bilsteins. Of course, this means I would need to upgrade my strut assemblies as well which pushes the price pretty high for the project. My car is used for street driving and weekend runs on public roads. I don’t track it and don’t plan on tracking this particular car. The car has 80,XXX original miles on it. What are peoples thoughts on the two shock types? With the driving I plan to do, will I notice the difference between new Konis and new Bilsteins? Is the upgrade to all new strut assemblies worth the extra money? Thanks!! Obligatory Pic: ![]()

I'd stick with the Konis. I've never had Bilsteins on my car, but have had Boges and Konis and the Konis are perfectly fine. Especially for your application, I would suggest the standard Koni "reds" - don't go for the yellow sports. Overkill and a bad match for stock torsion bars.

You might just crank up the Konis a couple of notches, may not even need to be replaced?

IROC,Why are the yellow sports a bad match for the T bars.
I like the flexability they provide in handling/ride, and am pleased with them ?? just curious.

Thank you - you confirmed my suspicion that I can stick with Koni's!

It is important when you get right down to it to match spring rates and shock valving, but there's nothing to say you can't use sports with stock torsion bars. Mike

Mike,
I appreciate your feedback.and admit to not having a handle on. It would be interesting to have a 911 suspension guru drive my car with the Konis and compare with Bilsteins.I dont think I could tell the difference...yet I have had the sports on for about 6 -9 mos and no complaints on the street. The blind shock test of 2006
