G50 output shaft seals ?
Two questions
1) What's the preferred technique for getting these seals out? 2) How far in should they be installed ? I was reinstalling the one I did manage to get out, and it was just a hair proud of the side cover so I used a piece of wood to seat the seal and...it drove in so the outer surface of the seal is now about 2 mm recessed from the side cover. I am assuming that's too far in since the original was about a 1/2 mm recessed. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Jasper
By no means am I an expert on this but I did fit 4 new seals(cocked 2 up and got the second 2 right) to my box when it was out and they havent leaked since so I guess the latter 2 were fitted just fine. The reason I cocked the first 2 up was that I damaged the outer seal/dust boot on each seal when I was test fitting the flanges so I pulled them and fitted 2 new ones. As far as I could tell you want the outside of the seal to sit just a touch further in than where the flange eventually pulls up to - not very helpfull I know but I installed mine too high at first and had to pull the flanges and tap them in a little further. I also cleaned the square edge of the flange up where it goes through the eeal and also lubed it a bit to prevent it damaging the seal again - they were very tight when I first fitted them but they have loosened up a fair bit now.
