Deep 6 Fuchs or 15x7? Your vote counts and I need the input!
 

I was lucky enough to work out a deal with Lee and trade for some Deep 6’s. They are the Early ones with the heart shape hole at the valve stem. Now, I had always planned on getting 15x7s for all around but when this opportunity came up, I couldn’t pass. They are in great condition with only a small nick in a couple places and could use some Al Reed love.

Should I stay with the Deep 15x6s or go ahead and get some 15x7s? I’ve heard all the comments about limited tire selection in the 15” size, but I’m going to stay with that for the foreseeable future. It will be fine for my purposes. Mostly street with a few DE’s here and there.

Either wheel will probably be polished w/black background.

Can you post a full picture of your car? It helps to see the whole car if we are to determine it's personality. Hot rod, sleeper, etc..

When it comes to Deep6 Fuchs I think you cannot go wrong
with factory anodized or polished.
Like Jeremy says it would help to know what your car looks like.
205/60/15 Yokohoma ES100 are pretty decent tires, reasonable
price too.

Sorry to ask a stoopid question here, but what is attractionof deep 6 fuchs ?

I've been around the block a few times but can'y honestly say whether I have ior have not ever seen a real set of these wheels. Are they visually distinct in some way, at least distinct enough that I'd see them and think "hey those wheels look cool"?

Since your car is a 72' the deep six is not really period correct. The flat six replaced the deep six in late 71'.

To me it's a no brainer. I'd go with the 7x15's for a 72'. That way you can run 205, 215 or even 225 x 15' on the 7" wheel and it won't look funny. Considering you've got a 3.2 you need the extra width.

Have you ever seen a 205/15 on a 6x15" wheel? It looks funny. Imagine what a 215 or 225 might look.

If it were me I would get the 7x15"s and run 205/15 front and 225/15 rear with additional negative camber for clearance.

How bout both? Deep 6s on the front, 7s on the rear is a neat combo. I have a set of polished fake 7s and deep 6s and they are pretty cool. But personally, my favorite is factory finish 7s all arouns on a 72 per this photo;

15x7s. Nothing looks better on an unflared '69-'73 car, IMHO. Especially one thats silver.

I dunno, I've sort of got the same question. So, I just got both, or actually all 3. One set of polished 15x6, a pair of deep six, and a pair of 15X7 anodized, and a set of 911R offset that I need to refinish yet. Now I just need time to get the car going so I can see what I prefer.

I voted 15 x 7 polished. But the choice between "polished" and "factory" finish is limiting. There's the RSR finish, the Bob Tilton finish, what Al Reed calls the "Turbo" paint job (just the outer lip polished) and so on. I really don't think deep sixes offer that many choices and look good. They should be the factory finish, or at least painted in that pattern.

Seems like if will be a close vote on the 7's between polished and "fatory" finish. :D

Yeah, my poll is lame. There are so many different finishes I just tried to keep it simple.

Here's a pic of the Silver Sled. I only have few on this 'puter. The one's Shuie put up are very similar to my car's intended look. I have an S bumper to add and I want to do a Ducktail. RS carpet, 79 Turbo Sport Seats, 10k tach so it's not all that original.

Absolutely beautiful cars. Have a 73.5 Targa with the 15x6s like DonDavis but would love to get my hands on some 15x7s. Grew up with the Targa, but the coupe has always seemed to have the best lines. DonDavis, since we, I think, have the same wheels, what size tires are you running?

I forgot to vote also. Id go with the factory finish for sure.

Bob Tilton did a really nice photoshop comparison of the deep 6 wheels in different finishes on his car a while back that would be worth looking at.

That's a rather smart looking car. To me, 7's go well with headlight changes and that sort of thing. You do well there stock. Once you start messin' with it, down the slippery slope you go. ;)

I went to a DE last week. I've never driven in one and I am really lookin' forward to it! My car was not quite ready but I went to hang with Jeff (CUL8R), LeeH, Mad Mike and a few others. I got to ride with an instructor in a 65 911. GOOD GRIEF!! He was flying around that track all I could do was laugh. He kept lookin over and saying "You OK?" I'd yell "Hell yes, keep going!"

The slippery slope thing has me a been concerned, but in a good way ;)
