Question Metallic Green Paint? (pics inside)

Hello folks.

I'm trying to match a metallic green paint for a Kafer Cup replica, and I believe it may be a Porsche color. I found a photo of a 911 that appears to be very close (if not the same color), but I can't identify the color. If anyone knows more about the Porsche metallic paints, I would greatly appreciate any help!

Here's the car I'm trying to match:

Here's a 911 which appears to be almost exactly the same color (but I do not know what the color name is):

In my searching, I've found a few Porsche colors which appear to be close, but might not be it. Here's 'Palma Green Metallic' (L95K):

and here is 'Viper Green Metallic':

The problem I'm having is that the colors look quite a bit different based on the lighting, the camera used, etc. That is clearly visible in the two 'Viper Green' photos above.

For another example, here are two pictures of the same 'Palma Green Metallic' car, in the same location, at different times of the day, as well as a photo of its trunk:

So as you can see, I'm getting stuck! If anyone knows what color that first 911 is, or has any metallic greens that I've overlooked, I would love to hear about them. I also understand that both the Palma and Viper green metallics were very rare colors- Are they hard to get or unavailable? Ultra expensive?

Thanks!

Thanks!

I had looked at Oak Green Metallic, but I kept finding examples such as this one, which look to be much darker than the reference (930! My bad!).

Just found this one in another thread (from a search for 'Oak Green'). This one was debated, but they believe it is 'Emerald Green Metallic'.

(What color is the Turbo on page 184 of Aichele's "Porsche 911 Forever Young"?)

For some reason Porsche has altered that Turbo Carrera photo. When it first appeared on porsche.com it looked like this:

Here's another 'Emerald Green Metallic' - doesn't look like this is the color from this picture.

Interesting!! I never did know where that photo came from- someone posted it in another forum. It looks like someone played around quite heavily with the saturation/conrast - probably to make it look more punchy. (The older photo DOES have an "older" look to it...)

Thanks!

Carl-

When you say that photo was on porsche.com, where exactly was it at? I poked around, but could not locate it. (And a search for 930 on their site returned zero resuls!)

Go to:

http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/classic/classic-models/models-porschecars/

Choose 911 Turbo and 1974. Then when the window pops up choose the "experience" tab. From there you can download the 1024X768 photo.

No idea about the '74 Targa color code.

Another interesting bit of info - Apparently there are THREE versions of that Porsche photo!!

This one was posted on TheAutobahn.com, with the caption "Green 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera shown from the front 3/4 view"

Note that the background trees are even LESS saturated than the "old" photo from the Porsche site. It looks like the color of the car has been enhanced though! It is also interesting that the filename is "1975911_1024x768.jpg" So Porsche.com says it is a '74, The filename says it is a '75, and the caption says it is a '77.

Well you can tell it's a '75 or '76 b/c it's got pre-Pirelli P7 tires on it.

The VW and the 914 look like 8383 Metallic Green from '70-'71. IIRC, the paint codes changed the next year, so the same color may be known by different codes.

I have an old Glasurit book and it shows a green metallic for VW that looks very similar, code is 97P, interestingly the cross match that it shows in the book is Porsche color 8383.

regards,
Eric
