Bolt Nut and Washer sizes

In looking at the PET catalog I see specifications for nuts bolts and washer like this. What do these notation mean? I know the M5 or M8 means it is a metric size and the 5 or 8 is the diameter. How do you know what the correct length and thread pitch should be?

Washer A 5,3
Lock Nut M 5
Hexagon-head Bolt M 8 x16

Thanks.

You could always identify the thread pitch of the old one with a thread gage.

Not quite sure where you're going with the question....

M8 x 16 means a metric 8mm bolt that is 16 mm long under the head.

The nut designation must mean it fits an M5 bolt. There is a DIN and now I guess an ISO std. for the thread ptich. IIRC, rarely there will be a departure from that for special use fasteners.

No ideas about the washer designation -- where did you see that code listed?

Jim Sims is bound to know all about this - he might see your query and post something definitive.

Ok. Thanks. That answers one question. That means the thread pitch is not specified. Could it mean that the thread pitch is standard for a certain size of a bolt?

I found the washer description in the online parts catalog.

Thanks. I am not sure what the A means in front of the washer size but the 5,3 means a 5.3 mm inside diameter.

Just saw this thread; this key board mechanic has been fixing a heater box to muffler exhaust leak and installing an A/C system in a 911.

If there is no other information, the thread type defaults to the coarse pitch (distance from crest to crest of thread in mm): M4 is .7, M6 is 1, M8 is 1.25, M10 is 1.5, M12 is 1.75, M14 is 2, etc.
