I bought a car wierd chasis number help

this is aparently a 1976 SC CARRERA car

the number I cannot make out

it is a german sold car

built in 1, 3, 1974

cahsis number 911 6 6 0280

this seccond 6 was for the RS cars

marked SC 3.0 L

RS cars are also marked SC

can any one find this numer on a chart from Germany

I have doubts of it being a 1974 RS 3.0

It wasn't built in 1974 with that VIN number ... which should be 10 digits long, not 9! The '0' for coupe digit is missing.

The VIN is well into Carrera 3 production for the fall/winter of 1975/76. The first 124 or so of the 1976 '6' chassis numbers were the last of the Carrera 2.7s, which were not called RS for the 1974 - 76 models.

Give us some pics and the engine type number and serial number ... I'm betting it is a CIS Carrera 3 engine with 3-pin CDI unit and small distributor.

how do you upload pics

kycarguy 935 04-29-2006 05:35 PM

1976 ................................... VIN from:.............. to:.....................
911 Carrera 3.0 Coupe.............911 660 0001-------------------- 911 660 1093
911 Carrera 2.7 Coupe............ 911 660 9001-------------------- 911 660 9123

Hope this helps.

here is the 1974 date that has got me confused

Joeaksa 04-30-2006 04:25 AM

The photo is not good enough for me to enlarge and read the print on the 'brief.

If it says "erste zulassng" (or something like that, my German is rusty) next to the date, then believe that's the date of first being registered, not build date.

Try a better scan or photo so we can read what it says and will try again.
