Seat kits, redoing seats

I have a 76 911s, and the interior isn't in that bad of shape, colors have faded, etc.. and I'll redo it eventually. But, the seats are totoally shot. I really don't want to purchase new seats as they are very pricey and would like to keep as much as the original look as possible.

So, I have looked at the seat kits from world Uph, and those seem like they'll do fine, but even they are going to be expensive and that's with me doing the work. Does anyone else have good/bad experience with other seat kits out there? I don't want covers, rather want them to be like new again.....

Finding a nice set of used seats can be a very economical way to go.

Check inlandimports.com, I bought a set of covers from them for under a couple of hundred along with the hognose pliers and rings. It took a Saturday but I did it and it came out finel. Remember to use steam or a heat gun for the tight fits, they have a how too page also. I am sure if you watch fleabay, you can find a kit also. All this assumes you want black, other colors are a challenge.

I installed the front seat kit from World Upholstery and my seats look perfect and brand new except for a slight wrinkle or two. You can find cheaper seat kits but you generally get what you pay for.

I bought the kit from world upholstry and had a local shop put it on both seats. They look brand new. I wish I had done that years ago and saved myself the time and expense of trying to buy used seats that were in good shape. Check the price of the kit against the cost of decent leather used seats and you'll see the kits are a great deal. I used a local shop to install them and it was cheap and the fit is perfect. I think it's the way to go.

Well, as much as I probably hate to do it, I am leaning toward the world uph as well. That being said, if I in fact, do that, I'll post the before and after pics so people know what I went through. I know how much pictures help me on here!!!

Thanks for all the input! I just hate spending the money, but, and a big but.... I want it to be done right, and don't mind doing the work myself.

Oh, one more question, for those of you who have used world, did you also get new cushions, or just the vinyl/leather? Most of my cushiong seems okay, but, it is 30 years old, and I'm thinking, if I'm spending that much, what's a couple hundred more to do cushions as well.... ARGH!

There is a fellow that posts here that does beautiful work on seats named Jason Cullen. You could do a search and see some of his work. I would get a price from him before doing a kit. There might not be a big difference.

I just installed a set of full leather from World on some 1975 seats, it took me about 8 hours a seat working on them after work a few hours a night.

The replacement cushions were really expensive so I repaired some torn foam using 3M Super 77 adhesive, I also had a broken spring that needed repairing.

The seats turned out really good, make sure you buy the hog ring pliers and a bag of hog rings.

The backs are the most difficult, they kinda get rolled on from the top hog ringing as you go, once you have the covers let me know and I'll give you some further tips.

It's not brain surgery, TAKE YOUR TIME and don’t rush.

Good luck.

Wow! That looks better than some of the seats that have been sent out to be done. Awesome job.

Jason Cullen did these seats for me recently. He also has some very nice ready-to-go-stuff, fair prices, and very pleasant to deal with.

well, I sure hope mine turn out as good as the pictures. I don't think I can afford the leather, but hey, it had vinyl to begin with!
