Front Schok replacement URGENT HELP!!!
I am in the process of replacing the front shocks. I have koni shock and am installing new Koni inserts. I took the old one out and already disassembled. When I took the old insert I realize that there was some fluid inside the shock housing. I am not sure if this is fluid coming out of the old insert, or if I have to fill the housing with any type of fluid. The Koni instruction say to drain 0.5 Lt of A/C or antifreezing fluid??? (it has the A/C symbol) not sure what should go in there, if anything. Any recommendations??
Also how much should I adjust the schock. I plan to use the car on the track and street. 360 degrees would be ok? Thanks

Thanks for your reply, I read lots of threads on shock replacement as well as 101 Preoject book, and Haynes, but none mentions this fluid. Any idea what fluid it is and how much to put in there? Thanks a lot

Mario - The fluid is to help disperse heat. I just replaced mine 2 weeks ago.....I used AFT oil. You only need to put in 4 or 5 ozs...Any excess will be squeezed out as you tighten the nut on the insert.....G'luck.......

I had oil in my Boge struts also. My mechanic told me it was common to put oil in struts to help keep the insert from moving inside the strut.
To disperse heat seems more likely though.

Right...any oils is fine, it helps disperse the heat, as mentioned, and keeps the corrosion at bay as well. ATF is a good choice. Just enuf to oooze out the top with the insert inserted.
