So I looked at an '82 SC today and have a few q's
I stopped by a local dealership today to look at a 1982 911SC. The car looked pretty clean in the photos but did have a lot of miles.
The color looks a lot like a blue green color I've seen on some 964s, sorry I can't recall the name. It is either really good condition original paint or a good quality repaint. The paint color under the carpets is the same as the outside and the paint on the fender lips has that rough texture the factory uses. Outside the car it has a Carrera front valence (fogs don't work though) and the rear decklid has a Carrera emblem on it. The interior is tan and in nice condition. I figured out a guy my size (6'5") will need at least the steering wheel spacer and a lowered seat. The stereo is aftermarket with a nicely hidden external amp in the trunk. Open up the rear decklid and surprise! The car has a 3.2 from a Carrera installed. The dealer didn't know it was a later engine and had no service records. So I start it up and the car idles kind of rough. I wasn't sure at first if that was normal since it's been quite some time since I've been in a 911. I let it warm up a bit and the idle did not smooth out, kind of felt like when I installed the plug wires on a 2.2 incorrectly. I blipped the throttle to see if the problem was just an idle issue but the car just stumbled, maybe more than just an ICV or idle switch problem. The AC is barely cold but I was expecting that. Any ideas on the idle problem? The only obvious thing I noticed in the engine compartment was the new catalytic converter. Then again I haven't spent much time around a 3.2. Thanks for your time!

I'd have a PPI done. You need to watch the valve stems on the 3.2 motor.

Get a leakdown and compression test. The $200 you spend on a PPI will save you much more by a. giving you negotiating power or b. telling you to run away!

I've definately been reading here enough to realize a PPI goes a long way! The repair costs on these cars is just way to high to not get one done.
Does anyone have an idea how much it costs to get the seat rails lowered? From reading through posts here on Pelican the rails need to be cut off of the tub and re-welded lower. With all the brake lines and fuel lines running in the center tunnel I'd definately want someone experienced doing the work.

Hmmm... Carrera valance, Carrera emblem, and a 3.2? Are you sure it's really an SC? I'd run the VIN if I were you, just for yuks.
Definitely have the PPI. Good luck! ianc

Yeah I double checked and the sticker on the door jamb said the build date was 1982.
