I have a 86 911 carrera with 56k orig miles. untill recently I have had minor oil leak that I have not been concerened with. This week I noticed a large oil puddle under the car. It has been sitting for some time. I am considering dropping the engine to replace all the gaskets where leaks are most common. Will probably replace the clutch plate since the engine is out.
I have read about the oil return tubes that can be replaced with the aftermarket expandables. Are these relibale and if so do you recommend any particular brand. Pelican shows one at 35.00 and one at 27.00. Witch one is best? Thanks for your help Marc Gifford |

Marc,
Call a Pelican rep at their 1-800 # and ask which one they recommend. If you do a search, there is much info posted on these items. Cheers,

I replaced mine on my SC with the expandable type. The good thing is, if they ever do leak again, you can pop them out, replace the rubber seals and be back on your way. Easier than removing the heads to put in the orginals.

If you use them, use silicone grease, not oil to lube up the Viton o-rings, The innder and outer tubes should slide with two fingers. Use the grease on the o-rings going into the engine as well. Hose clamps work around the tubes to get some leverage, but at the end of the day, you just gotta shove them in. BTW, you may need to remove your heat exchangers, I did on the left side. Been in 3 years and no leaks. Don't remember which ones I bought. Probably the slightly more expensive ones.

I Just put them in my 70E.
Fairly easy once you get the hang of it. The first one took awhile, the rest went in quickly. I found the hardest part is slipping the locking ring into place, but with a little patience, it works well. I used a Teflon lubricant on the rings and they slipped onto place with some minor effort.
