Walter Mitty vintage races-Road Atlanta
It was supposed to be Japanese cars for the main feature but when you walked around the paddock 75% of the cars were Porsches. And you know that ain't a bad thing

Anyone else think that black 962 would make a sweet weekend car? I even bet in the great backward state of South Carolina the DMV would give you plates if you had a title and proof of insurance.
Can anyone just show up at this race or is it a closed event--have to be on a list? I think I might have to make it down there next year. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Totally open to public. You can buy tickets in advance a little cheaper or at the gate when you arrive. I took my son and including parking in the infield it was only 60 bucks.
We had access to all the cars in the paddock as well. It was a lot of fun. Even got to do 10 laps of touring ourself with a pace car. Made my son's day. (Mine too) ![]()

I was super-under impressed with the whole thing.
Maybe I expected too much after reading a website that called The Mitty "The Monterey Festival of Speed of the East Coast". Well, it sure wasn't "a Monterey". The autocross was a joke, but I guess they had to dumb it down for insurance and safety. There was no way in hell I was paying $45 to ride around the track for 10 laps behind a pacecar. I did enjoy seeing the old Jag coupe out there, and there were seemingly hundreds of Porsches, but I question the historical nature of a fox-body mustang and the C4 corvette with way too much BS body kit. My high point was on Sunday when I was leaving. I took a turn around the "skid-pad" and a kid in a Miata jumped in behind me to "race". I not only lapped him, but when I did he tried to keep up as I went around again... and he spun out. And everyone watching clapped and gave me thumbs up - because I was driving a 4-door Kia. That's right, I embarassed the punk with my wifes sedan... !!! HA! Porsche content: ![]() Anyone we know?

Cashflyer, sorry to hear your disappointment. I have not been to Monterey so I would not make that comparison. The 10 lap touring was actually 35. I may not have paid that but after seeing the smile on my 14 year old son it was priceless.
The very first race on Sunday was a 1 hour long enduro that was 80% Porsches. 356,914,911. All in all a great race to watch. In another race watching a 956 make a pass on the inside of 12 coming down the hill was amazing. I am not sure what racing you were looking for but what we got to see was well worth it. Turning 1:17's and 1:18's at Road Atlanta isn't slow by any standards.

When I enquired on Sunday, the woman told me $45. I said, "You mean $35?" (because that was what I had been told by another driver) to which she replied louder, "FOURTY five!"
I was there all day Saturday. I left on Sunday when we got to the lull in action due to local "quiet time" rules. I watched the race you mentioned from my spot between 6 & 7. Nice. Several of the 911s were lifting the inside tire as they made that turn and stood on the fast button. Mostly, I'm just complaining because it wasn't as big and encompassing as I was led to believe. And the autox was lame. And I like to complain. ![]()

We were all over at the A G Edwards tent for lunch. Gotta agree though, it was the lightest turnout i've seen in years. With nice weather it's amazing the cars the spectators bring out.
