FI Fuel Pump?

Can you use an aftermarket perfomance fuel injection fuel pump?

You might obtain responses if you were a little more specific: year and model (there are several different Porsche FI systems in use) and what your goals are.

My bad, wasn't thinking. The car is a '76 Targa with a '78 3.0 I am planning on putting a turbo and want to make sure a performance pump would be okay. I know the pump I have is good for 500 hp and am not looking for anything near that. Jus a little boost. I don't know if I need to add a regulator.

Any help is appreciated.

well, it'smore than just a turbo...you need a whole systematic approach. Compression of engine needs to be adressed, electronics and on and on.

tell us more about the plan and knowledgeable posters can fill you in.

Turbo,
The short answer is "yes, if you pick one with the right specifications."

A pump rated to that HP and if the pressure range is correct should be ok.

What pressure are you looking to run? What fuel management system? What injector specs?

You will get help in the proportion to which you offer details, options, plans, budget, timing, who's doing the work, etc.

Welcome and good luck!

The pump is an MSD EFI pump that should have no problem with 70 psi since I already have it on another car.

As far as fuel management and injectors, I have '78 CIS stock system. The motor has it's stock 8.5:1 pistons

The Turbo is a t3/t4 off my other car since I went with a bigger turbo. I am only planning on playing with 8 pounds max of boost with an intercooler. Day to day driving with be kept at 3 to 5 psi.

I'll be running a wideband to make sure my af/r's are in the right place. I have an MSD ignition and will probably change it to a msd w/ boost retard.

All work will be done by me and some friends.

I'd venture a guess that your pump should work just fine. I haven't done exactly what you are doing, but the pump at least should be fine.

Good luck and post pics!

Thanks John. I will post pics when I get done. Since I bought a basket case, I'm getting killed in the pocket book.

It'll all come together
