floor jack maintenence

ok, maybe OT.

i dont have instructions with my ancient floorjack; how do i add/change fluid? start with jack at lowest or highest position? everytime i open that fill port, i just make a mess. i think my jack is low on fluid, because it takes more and more pumps to get it to move.

I think if you slowly pump as you add, you can get some more fluid in. As soon as the jack will reach its max height, I don't think you should add any more or there won't be enought room in the resevoir for the fluid in the full down position. If fluid is coming out of the fill hole as you work the jack, it might be dead.

I have raised the rear of jacks before on a piece of wood to have the resevoir fluid run forward to create some space and expell air. HTH.

I dont know if it is off topic or not, but it is very timely as i need to service mine too. Mine is only a few years old and the instructions dont make any sense.

Funny comment for you VASH....
I bought a SAMS club jack a awhile back, and worked great... 3 pump and your up... Well, little at a time i started to have to pump more and more, and the damn fill plug kept falling off. So i tie strapped it to the body.. Well that worked for a bit more, time to spare.. BUT!!! the pain .... One day i needed to add fluid, as soon as i clipped the strap THE F--ing plug hit my lip, split it and knocked me on my azz with little cute looking starz.. all that pressure built up and POP went the weazle.. or shall i say jack asss. LOL BRB ill scan a papper for you...

Honestly, what an interesting thread!

I found that I got new life out of my jack by opening the bleeder screw, turning the jack handle to "lift" (full right) and slooowly bleeding the air by pumping the handle about 10-12 times, then retighten the screw. Good as new.
