Oil Line Routing

in the pic, are these oil hoses routed correctly? I can't seem to get the straight hose to the tank to go on the outside, nor can I find a photo in the shop manual that shows me how they ought to be. So, I'm concluding that the line with the curved metal end (that goes to the metal 'hoop' shaped line that crosses the engine) is the one that ought to be on the outside -- as shown in this pic. True??

The problem is that I discovered that the tire abraded the hose a bit. That could be from my failure to be able to get the hoses up high enough and in close to the body enough -- I was never able to get them up high enough to use the correct mounting hardware -- even after I put a bottle jack under them to lift (with a wood pad on it).

I realize the lines are too low -- I haven't tried to wrestly them up to where they belong yet...

but is the proper hose on the outside?

Randy,
On mine the line to the engine goes up-and-over the line doing directly to the tank.

I have some QT video clips of where my hoses are routed by e-mail if you want.

the one that crosses under the bellhousing is on the inside
there's a good pic in one of Wayne's howto sections. just can't remember which one, or maybe the PP catalog under 'oil lines'.

Nope not in the catalog -- my car is a 1973 if that makes a difference. Not sure what the over means in 'up and over'...

Bill -- are you saying the above pic has them in the wrong orientation relative to your '73 911 MFI 2.5L car?

Thanks - it's good to have 2 cars posted! Reason: a PO might have altered a car, but it is unlikely that several PO's altered several cars n the same way...

Now, I just need to figure out a way to get a sheet metal screw in to hold that bracket shown in the photos on... no luck after 4 hours of struggle today...

Randy -
My bracket is attached via a threaded stud that's welded to the sheet metal - or maybe coming thru from the other side w/a 10mm nylock nut that you can see in the photo (kind of).

Huh - that would be a good way to do it. On my car there are 2 places where there seem to be small plastic inserts - they look sorta like "Mollys' that you use in drywall in a house. Some kind of sheet metal screw is supposed to go in there. I guess... I don't really know as the PO had an odd rig going in some places, and then the painter painted over the small inserts. But that is my best guess.

Maybe I can get to the other side and just drill a hole and put a bolt thru...

Here is how to not route the lines. The one with the metal part was twisted so that my tire rubbed right through it: Alot of smoke & oil (could have been worse)

Yep - that's what I meant. The bent metal part pointed up too far causing the rubber line to get pushed out by the longitudal member and the tire did it in....

Part 911.207.237.00 - support bracket - $10.52 @ Pelican is a smaller version of the same mounting bracket as the 3 that used under the rockers. It is shaped exactly the same and mounts in the rear fender well with a sheet metal bolt thru it - the wings hold the 2 oil lines with rubber hose wrapped around them to cushion them.

I should say the above is what is supposed to happen - I can't get it to mount on my car.
