do you apply the por15 directly to the bare metal?

rolls 912 10-21-2009 09:12 PM

you can but I couldn't be bothered waiting for it to dry.... I use Wurth Zinc prime with Wurth texturecoat.

Having done some of the grinding & cleaning that you've done, I can say you are a glutten for punishment. But in the end you know it's been done right. Great job!

47silver. Yes you can apply POR15 to bare metal. I've used the stuff in all kinds of applications. Very good product.

POR is great but its expensive and goes off real fast. I usually keep it for the big jobs.

Great job. A lot of long hours there. Which type of front oil cooler are you using? Any pictures?

Where are you going to put the speedo cable now that there's a fuel line occupying it's space?

Phil

Is there a reason that more people havent done the SS oil lines? I actually have a crushed line and was debating the Air/Heat fix, an Elephant Line, or something just like this. Its a street car. Doesnt really run too hot even crushed, so Im thinking the Heat Transfer issue wont be an issue for me... unless there is something else I am missing... anyone have an opinion?

Old thread - it's been a while since I did all this :-)

Thanks for the kind words. The speedo cable is gone with the later transmission that isn't cable driven. Front oil cooler is a B&B, I think there is another thread with pics somewhere.

The SS lines are nice since you can easily build them to suit without fancy tools. Heat transfer could be a problem if your radiators are small... i guess it depends. I originally used rubber wrapped around the lines to protect them from the metal edges, but this year I changed the oil system and added the finned lines from elephant, along with the widemouth carrera cooler and the fan on it. I was worried about sitting in traffic and overheating.

So now I've got the factory style thermostat, finned lines going to the widemouth cooler in the fender with a fan, then going to the big B&B up front.
