CV Joint Success
Guys,
Recently I noticed that my CV boots were torn on both of my rear axles, I wasn't surprised with 137k on the car. After searching the BBS and learning more than I ever wanted to know about CV joints I ordered the boot kits from Pelican and 12 new bolts. As always my order came a day early, and was packed with care. I noticed I only received 8 bolts, not 12 like the invoice stated. Called Pelican on Thursday afternoon and explained what happened, Monday four more bolts were here--outstanding customer service. I decided to make this repair a Pelican meet and fix Daniel's car. After getting schedules arranged, I had two maybe three Pelican's lined up. KC, (KCinBR) and Mike (911 in SC) braved the deluge of rain and showed up. Of course Mike missed all the fun and dirty disassembly, his excuse was he was reading the forum and lost track of time. The original plan was to take lots of pictures but we got busy almost forgot about the camera. Disassembly went much better than expected, thanks to KC's impact wrench and I soaked the lower shock bolts and axle nuts for two days in PB Blaster. Here we have one axle reassembled and another waiting it's turn. The rubber boots needed just some help getting on On goes the cap Now to put the axle back in the car ![]() Getting ready to torque the bolts down Everything went back together very well, we did bend the throttle linkage by accident which raised the idle 200 rpm. I took the wheel off and bent it back--2 minute fix. I was sorry not to get any pictures of all three cars together--dinner would have made a good picture. Thanks again guys for all your help, and only 100 more miles till I recheck the bolts.

Great story - it's messy but very satisfying work.
