85 Carrera Coupe. Blue tooth wiring question
I just installed a Kenwood bluetooth amp to stream from my phone directly to the speakers. I dont have a head unit anymore since installing the Rennline dash backdate kit. When connected it cranks loud and connects easily with redundant controls that are mirrored on my smart phone.
How can i wire the main power feed and the power controller so that its only powered when the car is on. Presently when connected its always on and draws continuously. ( i've disconnected it for now ) Thanks, Tom ![]() |

You need to connect the trigger wire to a switched circuit. Usually that wire is blue on an amplifier.
Do you have a picture of the wiring diagram for the amp?

^^^^ this ^^^
Here's a link to the manual for this amp -- https://manual.kenwood.com/files/B5A-3628-20_01.pdf page 2 shows that the amp's "power control wire (Blue-White)" should be connected to a power source that's controlled by the ignition key switch (your diagram shows this wire as being connected directly to the battery), while the amp's "battery wire (yellow)" should be connected directly to the battery. Move the power control wire (blue/white) from the battery to a fuse that protects a circuit that's only energized when the ignition's on (e.g. power windows) and you should be all set -- since the power control wire is only acting as a trigger, it's not pulling significant power and should not cause an issue if added to another circuit. |

Didn't work as planned?
After connecting the power control module power line to the electric window fuse the blue tooth remained on continuously?
I ended up getting a simple toggle switch for the main power that goes to the the positive terminal. Its hidden under the passenger seat. When I want to listen to the the blue tooth I just flip the toggle on and everything works perfectly. When I park I turn it off and it doesn't draw any juice. seems good for now. Thanks again for the help. |

Do your windows roll up and down with car off and doors open? If so there is an issue with window relay/door switch.

I have the previous model Kenwood amp, and it's fantastic. I'd hook the yellow wire directly to the battery, and the blue wire I'd connect to the harness that originally powered the factory radio, or any other confirmed, switched wire. The easiest way to verify this is with a very inexpensive 12v test light, ground one end of it, and the probe will let you touch various wires and circuits to determine if they shut off when you turn the key off. https://a.co/d/6cAKutJ will get the job done (amazon search will turn up hundreds of these things from $10 or less to whatever you want to spend)

Suggest a simple multimeter from amazon and find a 12V switched power source. If the stock radio wires are still around, one of those will be switched 12V.
As the poster above stated, looks like blue is switched power. You def don't want to walk out to a dead car because you forgot to turn off a bluetooth amp. |
