Need source for filter '72 console oil line fitting
 

I need an extra fitting for my oil filter console since I've had it converted to use a thermostat. Do these things have a part number? Is it the same fitting that the oil return line screws onto on the engine case?

is this the same fitting that is needed for the bottom of the 72 oil tank as well?

and...

can you use the newer style (74+) thermostat when boring out the 72 console, or do you have to use the 72 specific one? cost difference is about $100.

Yes, I bought a later t-stat. Sorry to be vague. I haven't gotten to tank yet.

The latest downloadable PET catalog in PDF format indicates that this latest thermostat is used both in the engine and in the '72 remote thermostat:

The bottom fitting is already on the tank. It just has a block-off cap that you have to remove. The nut comes off, the you need to give the center piece a tap to get it to come off. Then a standard oil line will screw right on to it.

999-136-008-09 will NOT work for this. I've got two of them here and the ID is probably 2/3 the size of the fitting thats on the console. Id probably uses it anyway, but the threads on the inboard side of the fitting are too small to thread into the housing.

Does anyone have the thread pitch or a different part number for the fitting on the '72 filter console?

What are you guys with the '72's doing? Pulling the oil line fitting from an old motor? I've got a spare console here that I could possibly steal the fitting from but Id like to buy a new one.

I just had this problem on my '72 a week before you did. I ordered a fitting from Chuck Moreland @ Elephant Racing. It was expensive as hell (like $35 shipped) for what it is, but it looks like the right part. I must admit all I've done so far is eyeball the fitment and have not tested it yet, but it looks fine.

Im may just pull one from the other console. I was hoping to build that unit up as well, but little things like these fittings are bleeding me. Do you have the part number handy by chance? I looked at his website, and the fittings that are picture look just like what I have here.

I just came across this thread, so my info is late, but perhaps for future reference.........

I keep in stock most of the Porsche Metric fittings & hose material, and make up replacement hose assys for a number of well known Porsche restoration shops.

I will replace only the leaking hose if that is what is needed, and I even do the smaller 911 hose assys that use the 26mm fittings (66-71 models) & some early race cars like the 904 & 906 & 910.

Sometimes I have to wait for certain fittings to come from Germany, but for the most part I have what is needed. This one above costs about $75 using your fittings.

I just wanted to follow up on this with you. This week I managed to get 3 hours in the garage to work on the 911. I test-fit the fitting supplied by Chuck @ Elephant Racing - it fits fine and has the correct ID. The only difference I noted was that the new fitting doesn't seem to be as elegant as the original items, in that it protrudes from the console about 1/2" higher than the others. I don't think this will present a major problem in fitment of the oil lines.

I bit the bullet and placed an order with Chuck earlier this week for the console fitting, a set of finned lines, and remaining fittings I need for the engine/tank lines :)

Can you post a pic of your connection from the finned return line to the bottom of the oil tank? When I test fit this, it was the one part of the assembly that looks to be a really tight fit. The hose I made, which is extremely short, is going to be stressed when final-assembled. Any thoughts on this? How did it work out on your car?

I havent cut or fit the flex hoses yet, only mounted the lines. You are right, its going to be tight to fit the short line to the tank. My plan is to 90 upwards off of the line with one of Chuck's factory fittings and to use the straight fitting to hook into he tank. I haven't measured it yet, but the piece of hose off the 90 probably wont be 4". I'll bump this thread when I get everything cut to length and test fit..

Im glad I went ahead and spent the money on the lines. Its going to be a pretty clean install when its finished.
