LED bulbs

Has anyone tried the LED replacement lamps for tailight, brakelights? I'm thinking lower current and more light.

Thanks,
Sherwood Lee

I'm experimenting with them on my m/c's.
The ones I'm using (Taiwan?) are somewhat brighter; the wattage is similar to a regular bulb.
The main reason I'm trying them, is to see if they will outlast a filament-type bulb. The vibration on a m/c makes this a consideration.

Doug-

VERY old post, I know, but how did it work out for you?

My front right running light has failed, and the "coolness" of the DP 935 front bumper requires that the entire bumper come off in order to replace the light. (Probably 3 hours of work, IMO).

So, if I'm going to do this, I'd rather replace ALL the hard-to-reach lights with something that'll last much longer and be a little more vibration-resistent. (I'm sure my recent deer strike didn't help the life of the light bulb any).

Thoughts?

I have just done this - replaced all the external bulbs (Not the H4 ones) with Extra bright LED bulbs. Results are:
.- Minimised current on the circuit and wires.
.- Longer life expectancy on the bulbs.
.- Reduced visibility from some angles during the day.

I also had to install the resistor pack on the indicators to get them to work properly...

Thanks for the info...

Do you know which LED's you used? Were they similar to these?

http://www.superbrightleds.com/other_bulbs.htm

These seem to have multiple LED's in order to increase the spread of the light. Did yours as well?

LEDs are brightest along the axis of the bulb. Thus, bulbs aimed straight back wil be brightest when viewed directly from behind. They will be less bright off-angle.

There are other LED tail light/brake bulbs that are arranged in a angular array to increase the light spread.

Any pointers to a specific brand? Name? Website?

Any recommendations would be most welcome and appreciated.

I haven't used these yet, can't confirm the largest one will fit, but there should be plenty of light out of them:

Jeff,
If you go for it, let us know how they turn out.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to do SOME sort of LED conversion, at least on my front lights, as they're a HUGE pain in the ass to change due to the custom DP slant nose and "squished" bumper.

I only want to do this change ONCE, so this seems to be the best way to do it.

This is a pic from last year when I got hit by a deer, but you can see the lighting situation pretty well:
