Horn hook up

hey guys.

i'm swithching my stock wheel for a nardi. i'm trying to get the horn to work without much luck. the original wheel had a single wire attached from the bottom of the hub to the horn pad. as you can see from my pixs, my new hub as a single wire and then my horn button has two connections. i see the copper strip down at the base of the column where i assume engages the horn when a connection is made. how do i hook this up, or will it even work?

best, paul

Paul,
Looks like this wheel is missing the round brass ring that contacts the copper rub strip for the horn.
Also doesn't have the turn signal reset tab.
So you will need to turn off the turn signals by hand.
You could run a wire thru the wheel from the copper rub strip. The problem is the wire would move with the wheel and at some point in the near future wear down and ground out causing the horn to beep.
Best bet, get rid of that wheel and get one made for your Porsche.

Is it not possible to remove the turn signal reset tab from the hub of the stock wheel and screw it to the base of the new wheel's adapter hub? I'm not sure 'cos I've never done this, but I seem to remember seeing a post somewhere where someone did that.

Also, maybe you could just buy a single contact Nardi horn button and brass contact ring? I've seen Nardi's on 911's before, so I'm sure its possible.

Charles, i had such an epiphany on friday midnight. I took the old reset tab/indicator off the old wheel and it fit perfectly onto the new hub. Everything works, reset and horn. The smaller wheel gives me the feedback i was looking for not to mention the clearence from thigh rub. I can see the tach from 5 onward clearly. I will post a picture of the set up. thanks again for the help.

best, paul.

That's great! Its good to hear you've got it all fitted properly. Personally I think Nardi's are just the nicest looking wheel you can get - I love the look of the wooden rim. Yeah, post a picture when you can - I bet is looks great in situ.
