Are all rear decks like this? Speaker Question

I've searched the posts but can't seem to find anything on this. These pictures are of my 81 SC rear deck. Note that the original 4x6 Blaupunkts mounted behind the perforated upholstery in the rear deck on 4 bolts situated in a 4 1/2" square pattern.

Are there decent speakers which mount behind the deck which fit this bolt pattern? Also, there is a metal grill that the speaker mounts behind, so the center of the speaker can't stick out at all. Are all the 911SCs like this or did some come with surface grills? I'd like to retain the present look. Any suggestions?

If your looking for bigger speakers get a copy of excellence. Theres a company that sells complete rear decks that look factory but you can use bigger speakers.

I'm not looking for bigger speakers, only ones that fit.

Check out Crutchfield, com. Although 4 x 6 speakers are a bit small by today's standards, they have a pretty good selection: Alpine, Kenwood and Blaupunkt. They should be able to help you out.

I've already spoken to them. My question is, did all the SCs come with a rear deck like mine?

That looks the same as my 79 930. I had mine recovered without the metal mesh and installed 5-1/4" topmount speakers.

my 79 SC rear deck has 2 black cast luggage loops on each side appox 1.5 in wide to accomodate luggage straps...I guess. What else would they nbe for.
No rear speakers,just in-door speakers.

So this is what I did. I bought a set of 4x6 Pioneers from Circuit City ( I only have a 4x15Watt amp on my Blaupunkt CR-3001 cassette deck/tuner.)
I was told that the speaker plates would fit the original rear-facing bolts in the rear panel. The bolts were farther apart (Up & Down) than the plates that came with the speakers. I made 5x7 panels out of 1/8 " ply, drilled them for the speakers and the panel, put bolts in for the speakers and bolted them on. I also cover the crumbling foam on the back of the panel with duct tape.

Goal accomplished. I was able to maintain the stock perforated vinyl look of the car with no speaker grills.
