help w/ throttle mount on pedal cluster

i've done all the searching.... they all deal w/ rebuilds and don't show the part i'm interested in.

my throttle is "broken". the rod that attaches directly to the gas pedal, is attached to a lever of sorts at the other end. that lever pivots on an axle mounted to the pedal cluster.

the lever on my car has started to rock not only fwd/aft (like it's supposed to), but also side to side. quite a bit. is there a nut or a bolt securing that part on its axle that could have fallen off? could it have bent itself from too vigorous of a "throttle application"?

i already have a rebuilt cluster from last year, and i had to transfer and install that piece from the old cluster to the new one, i'm just foggy on what's involved. is there a bushing that it rides on? not sure what made it so wobbly.

i looked for a pic but all the cluster pics deal w/ clutch/brake bushing installs and don't show how that piece is mounted/secured.

thanks.

Dave, you are referring to the bell crank on the pedal cluster. The bell crank has a shaft that is welded to it on the bottom. This shaft rotates on the two bushings on the base of the pedal cluster and is secured with a cotter pin.

The shaft and bell crank will commonly "break", the shaft is pulling through the stamped metal of the bell crank. The solution is to pull the bell crank and run a bead of weld around the shaft. Make sure you do this on the outside. you will see where the bell crank is tearing away. AFter welding up, reinforce the outside with a small piece of bar stock. This will help prevent future tear outs.

I would also make sure you notch the tunnel so the bell crank can not get caught under the lip. when you disconnect the bell crank from both throttle rods and rotate it all the way foward you will see where it should be clearanced. I think this is a safety item for all track cars that spend lots of time at WOT.

bingo, that's exactly the piece/problem... at least i know what has started to happen...

it was getting progressively worse all weekend... it was "ok" when i lifted rapidly between shifts, but quite disconcerting when it was getting hung up when you feather the throttle... nothing ruins your laptime like tapping the gas few times to dislodge it when you should've been lifting....

on the way back home i had to tie it off w/ a bungie just so it doesn't lean to the right anymore. typical dorki weekend...

notching the tunnel is a good idea ONCE YOU BEEF UP that part... otherwise, i found it to be a nice early warning indicator... not too early but good enough... can't imagine if it got stuck w/o a warning and unable to be dislodged

thanks jamie!

anyone got one of those for sale?

Does anybody have the bushings and cotter pin for the gas pedal cluster. Let me know since I have the same problem but no breakage.

Thanks,
Eddy

Eddy, the bell crank will not have the two bushings. Those will come in a pedal cluster rebuild kit. Less than $15.
