Pricecheck on non stainless pre 74 HE.

What's 2 old, but unused, pre 74 no stainless heat exchangers worth?

I don't know the answer but if they aren't rusted through and in generally good condition, I think JetHot coating them would make them more or less the equivalent of SSI's....? So they'd be fairly valuable. Someone please chime in if I am offbase on this comment.

They are not rusted, they have never been on a car.

Asking price is about $800 for both, fair?

BTW: What are that small piece of pipe comming out of the lower part of the left HE (lower and left in the picture)?

Magnus, I don't know what the small pipe is for. Possibly some sort of heat riser for an MFI system? I'm just guessing.

$800 strikes me as a bit high, though as I said I am no expert. They aren't Jet Hot coated now and Pelican sells new SSI's for $950 - 1000.

Just my $.02, but since you asked what they are worth I'd say closer to $500-600 since the buyer would have to ceramic coat them to make them last somewhat as well as the SSI's. Afterall they are 30 year old pieces of metal even if they are unused. Incidentally, how do you know they are unused? They look like someone sandblasted them to make them look unused.

Anyway, if a buyer pays $800 plus shipping he's within $150-200 of the SSI price. Coating them will cost that much and then he's equal to the SSI cost, but SSI's will NEVER rust out, period. Like I said, just my $.02. Good luck on your sale.

probably 450 because of shipping etc. Dansk stainless steel ones are 369 each from a bunch of vendors

Don't compare to SSI's. Perhaps someone into concours restoration would pay more.

They aren't 30 years old, they still make them new. Don't know the exact age.
I have seen pictures of new mild steel HE and they have that dull gray finish, whatever it is.

As for the asking price thats almost half of what new SSI costs here and if I would buy from pelican it would cost me ~$1300-$1400 to get them here....

Maybe a better question would be: If they are 60% of the SSI price, good or bad deal?

no dansk are not as nice as SSis but still stainless!.

The non stainless ones are worth maybe 650 to someone but it would be a hard sell IMHO

Magnus, I hadn't noticed you were posting from Sweden. So of course the cost to you guys over there would be huge to get SSI's. But as Ben points out, if you were trying to sell them here in the States guys would be comparing them (perhaps fairly or not) to SSI's and less expensive products like Dansk, etc.

By the way Ben, when you say "not as nice" what do you mean? I've never seen them closeup so I have no idea. Lighter gage metal? Fit & finish quality? Other?

dansk quality (welds and fit up piece to piece) is not as nice as ssis but otherwise very nice and fit right on

Ben, how is the comparative sound? I thought I had read/heard that Dansk tended to be louder...but it seems like the muffler makes the diff. What is the "classic" muffler to use with SSI's? I asume something stainless too, though the heat cylcing would probably(?) make whatever you chose rust...eventually, no?

the ssis and the dansk sound the same. I have dansk on mine and a friend has ssis. both with our(m&k) mufflers on 3.0 they sound the same. Both the dansk and ssis are made of 304 stainless but the ssis are btter build quality. If you by a stainless system they will last the ownership of the car without doubt
