Opinions needed about Pelican's DriveWerks

Hi all,
Pelican has a subsidiary called DriveWerks -- where we sell non-Porsche- and non-BMW-specific accessories and tools. We are toying with the idea of changing the name of the company (a primary reason is that many people mistakenly spell it DriveWorks -- and we have been unable to purchase that domain).

Do you think Drivegear.com is better?

What about a name with the word Pelican in it. Any ideas?

We look forward to hearing what the Pelican community has to say about this -- so fire away!

FWIW, shorter is better for the site name. Less chance people can miss you/create a typo with fewer letters to enter.

Partsgear?
Cargear?
partsandgear?

I'm not in marketing, I just make the stuff...

Drivegear to me would seem like a good choice over DriveWerks for the simple reason its easy to spell, remember, not many different ways to spell it. Since its an internet based business {I believe} then it should be as easy as possible to use.

PelicanGear?

Sounds generic. That's what makes Pelicanparts so brilliant--it sticks in your head.

Is Drivewerks where you also sell non Porsche parts? IMO, having BMW, Non-Porsche accessories, tools and parts lumped together makes for confusion.

DriveGear does sound generic. VW's in-house parts catalog and website is DriverGear (drivergear.vw.com)

'drivewerks.com' would have 'werked' better if you could have grabbed 'driveworks.com' at the same time, but looking at your whois data, I guess that wasn't possible.

Rick, thanks for the heads-up. I clarified the original post. DriveWerks is where we sell non-Porsche- and non-BMW-specific accessories and tools.

Thank you all for your thoughts. Please keep them coming.

terry, i'm not sure, but i think pelicanparts is already taken

and i'm very sure pelican has no desire to be associated with driveworks, no matter how you spell it

OMT, you are after a bit different clientelle than us here. Not to sound uppidiy, but Miata and Toyota owners dont have as much invested as we do. So, I think you should lose the "werks", altho it is cute. I like carstuff.com more and more as I think about it. It appeals to everyone, not just us Porasche nerds...............

Never go there, doesn't matter to me at all. Hmmm, sounds like improved marketing is in order.

I must admit, Pelicanworks has a nice ring to it, but I have to insist, You know Porsche folks are a little you know - over the edge. We crave performance. And drivewerks is for drivers who may not - who still enjoy thier cars, but maybe in a different way. They may like to listen to music in them. They may like to talk on the phone in them. They may want thier ride to be homey -er. They may want thier ride to be flashy. There are many other ways to separate yourself from the crowd besides raw power - and I think Scott is trying to tap into that market. Take it from a marketing guy............

Scoot, help me out here!

I gues what I am trying to say is that I think Scott is trying to tap into a different market than us guys here - a market that really doesn't care - god forbid - how fast thier car is................
