Exhaust Gasket Replacement for 1985 911

Can anyone tell me how many bolts are holding the heat exhanger to the muffler and also how many bolts holding the cross-over pipe to the muffler. The flanges are triangular but appear to only have one bolt.

Help! Rob

Porsche Crest Bolts

You have two heat exchangers that bolt to the cat converter via direct form the drivers side and a crossover form the passenger side with 6 bolts. Then you have the other end of the cat that bots to the muffler with 3 bolts. I know this because I just put a cat by-pass on my 85 Carrera Coupe.

Im talking drivers side. The connections b/w the cat converter and the heat exchanger and b/w the cat converter and the crossover. Are you saying all 6 holes are suppose to have bolts? Mine appear to have one bolt and two pegs

Three bolts per flange....8mm x 40 mm length ( under head).

Thr "pegs" may be remnants of bolts !!

When you replace, use nearly identically sized 5/16" diameter, 1.5" long stainless, 18 pitch, and matching silicon/bronze nuts. Doesn't rust, no galling, and the bolt head ( 1/2" ) is very close to stock 13mm.....you use the same wrench, so not being "metric" is a non-issue.
