strut tower brace question

but not what you think.

I installed an Elephant basic. I'm not always so good with conceptual stuff.

If i turn the brace toward the back of the car, does that tend to pust the towers apart? and of course vice versa when turning toward the front.

If I push the shock towers apart, does that tend to change the tire camber by pushing the tops of the tires apart?

I think simple answers for simple questions should work.

If I am not mistaken the purpose of the brace is to keep the towers apart(not flexing inward) relative to each other under cornering.....not to push them apart...

Look at the rod ends while you rotate to determine if you are pushing or pulling the towers. You want to creat just a little tension (pulling).

Well, that was a stupid question wasn't it. It depends on which end of the bar I put on which side of the car.

I tried watching the bar when I turned it to figure out what was happening, and wasn't having great luck, which is why I posted in the first place.

I, personally, think that the BEST time to install a strut brace is RIGHT before an alignment. Install the brace and let the the alignment shop set everything. That's what I did and it turned out GREAT!

I put a weltmeister brace in mine.
according to the weltmeister folks, the strut brace is meant to stop the struts from flexing outwards.
they also warned not to over tighten the brace which would pull the strut tops inwards and change the camber.
haven't had the alignment done since putting the brace on a few weeks ago, but the car was tracking straight and still does.
turns in a lot better and holds a better line too.

paulgtr,

that looks like the same CD changer that i have.
I need to figure out a new place to install mine since it won't fit under the bar. My trunk is different than your though, I have an SC.

wcc - I didn't need an alignment since only one bolt was removed. A couple hundred miles of road testing have confirmed that its still fine.
