Rear shock bolt replacement too short

Hello, I have an 81SC. The rear shock bolt to the trailing arm needs to be replaced. The stock bolt is an M14 1.5 85mm one, 8.8 grade. The porsche dealership didn't have one and the independent shops here in Seattle are closed on Saturday. But I need to drive this thing this weekend. It is too nice out.

I went to the hardware store and found a bolt, same specs except it is only 80mm in length. Is it ok to use this? It is 8.8 grade. The bolt is tightened a long way into the trailing arm, so I don't think it is major, but I don't want to do anything dumb.

Thanks.

My .02:
As long as you are getting the majority of threads engaged it should be ok. Drive it now and source the correct length next week. I would check the depth somehow just to be sure, though.

Thanks, I am going to drive it now. I can't believe I got that right rear nut on underneath all those hoses! It certainly gives one a lot of confidence though. Yup, I will get the correct length bolts on monday.

Thanks again!

Yeah, they are a PIA. New shocks were the first upgrade I did to my 911.
It's freakin' raining here and looks like it's going to continue through next week. At least somebody can get out and drive.
Have fun!!

5 millimeters is only about a fifth of an inch. Not a biggie. I wouldn't worry about replacing it. You might like to go to a grade higher grade bolt if you do, though.
