911 2,0 flat6 weight?

Hi,
My first post here I think.. Not really appropiate in this section since I have a VW Karmann Ghia Type-34 that I'm converting to be a hybrid with Porsche parts. For example it is getting 944 brakes all around.

The question is that I've been offered a 2,0 boxer 6 and now I'm wondering about the weight of this engine.

Thanks!

Ok, thanks!

I'll calculate with that then when I compare the weight with the stock engine. Unless anyone else got any other suggestion?

->Edit: With the given weight it is only about 16% heavier than a stock engine so it will not give any bigger problem with the authorities then either..

A lot of the 2.0 motors are aluminum instead of magnesium
I've seen this debated over and over and often the outcome is more.

I know from moving my own 2.0 around I would say its closer to 400+
with carbs and accessories installed.

in fact often I've heard 450 thrown out as a number.

Yes...the 2.0 L ( as a matter of fact...all the flat-sixes) are remarkably heavy.....use 420 lbs.

Seeing this is a foreign poster...don't forget these are American lbs....with 2.2 lbs / kilo....not 2.0 lbs/ kilo.

Ok. Thank you for clearing this up too.

This would give me 190 kilos compared to 125 kilos for a stock VW type 3 engine the.

I sure hope that it is enough when I fit 944 rear trailingarms and suspension into the Ghia then?

944 rear trailing arms are actually VW beetle, I believe, ...no worries...

However, you might want to go up 1-3 mm in torsion bar diameter to compensate for the extra weight....the extra 140 lbs ( extra 65 kilos) , or so.

Yes, I know the 944 and IRS VW parts are basically the same. I will recieve the early 944 trailingarms with hubs this week. The only difference are the hubs and bearings.

The original VW torsionbars are 21mm and I'm checking with a friend of mine who have a set of 944 torsionbar what size those are. He probably also have a set of 944 swingplates to go with those. If the 944 TB's are thicker I wil go with those otherwise I will use the thickest I can find of the stock beetle's even though they are shorter. (In that case I need to custom make the swingplates.)

I just got the info that the weight is 182 kilos for the engine. In other words exactly 400 lbs for you..

Thanks!
