Presenting Moneypenny, a 76 911S

Well, after a few months of hard work rebuilding its engine, Moneypenny is ready for prime time! Car has only 81K miles and it is fully documented to the window sticker. Color is Copper Brown Metallic (436-9-3) built 12/75.

Found her on-line and had been parked for about 3 years in a storage garage in PA. Original 2.7 smoked badly, turns out it had a hole in one of its pistons due to pre-ignition. Paid $4300 and included a second set of VGC 16x6 Fuchs and a complete set of factory workshop manuals.

I had sourced a tired '81 3.0l Euro engine from a local PCA member last summer with a head stud problem. I rebuilt it with 964 cams (from Camgrinder) and reused the SSIs from the '76.

Car is solid, spent Friday shampooing carpets and cleanning seats. Just needs a little work in the door pockets. Just started driving it this weekend and it has lots of power... Still breaking engine in. Also installed in a new clutch and new tires...

Factory options include Konis, sway bars, chrome fender strips, sun roof, leather seats and A/C (removed by PO), power windows, 15" Fuchs.

Total cost including engine rebuild is close to $9k. She's a keeper!!
Lou

len911,

New engine, new clutch, new tires, leather interior, and 81K miles all for less than $9K? That's great! That's exactly what you can do with a mid-year. Congratulations on doing the work yourself, and ending up with a 911 for the price of ........well what else can you get for that price? Wonderful job.

Nice midyear, very unique color, all for 9K, wow! How are the brakes? I'd at least bleed them if it sat for three years. Must be nice to drive around in a 911 that you rescued and "built" yourself.

You have done a fantastic job - she is a beauty. Color is stunning. Is there not suppose to be a rubber strip between rear bumper pad and rubber organ ?

Great looking car!

I dunno about the name though; shouldn't it be Moneybucket?

As requested here are some interior pictures... BTW, Moneypenny was used because of the copper color and in reference to James Bond movies...

Brakes are in good shape. MC was done some time ago. Flushed and bled last week with my daughter's help. She also help me set the timing by holding it steady at 4k! She is 10 and has been around Porsches all her life. She thinks it was loud, though, but loves riding in it.

Yes, bumper strips are missing. One of them was damaged while removing bumper for eng drop. Friend picked up one at Hershey for me. Just need to install...

This was my 3rd eng rebuild... 1st was one was a missed shift at VIR a few years ago. Wife was ticked since she did not get to run. It was a 78 3.0l that PO had converted to Euro specs. 6 bent exhaust valves... Can you say about 9K RPMs!

Second was a 3.2l race engine that I bought in boxes. 11:1 Cosworth pistons, twing plugged, ported, boattailed, Jerry Wood rebuilt Webers, 964 pump, Niresist rings, GE80 cams, crankfired ignition. Had just a few hours of running time but had spun a rod. Came with a good 930 crank. All I needed was rods. I paid $3600 for that about 5 years ago. It is putting out just over 300HP and lives in J Lo.

Next project will be a trans rebuild during the winter that I picked up a couple of years ago...

Oh, BTW. Two summers ago we rebuilt my son's 87 944 engine that had the proverbial #2 rod nock.

And yes, I'm very proud of my work and consider myself lucky that I have the knowledge to be able to do this and that my family supports me 100%.

Lou

Congratulations on your find and all your hard work!
A little lowering would make it look even better.

Paul, that is on the list of things to do... But I want to drive it for a while before I commit to lowering it... Lou

Hey, that is my lawn! And I did get to cut it this afternoon... You have to get the priorities right. Driving or cutting the lawn? Lou

Nice looking car!

Are you sure that's Copper Brown Metallic?

My car is a '77, and the color is supposed to be copper brown metallic, but it is completely different from yours.

The code is either Z6Z6 (from the cert. of authenticity) or 443 (from the door jam).

Frankly, my car doesn't seem to have any real copper to the color. I used to think a PO repainted in some other color, but I saw a 912E at Hershey this year with the exact same color, but original paint.

So I dunno... ?

seeing lots more cookie cutters of late it seems. nice car, damion..whatever color it is. a paint and body guy could tell you for sure whether or not your car's ever been repainted.
