What have I done?! Transaxle disassembly

I have started to take my type 911 gearbox apart to pear inside at it's secrets. I have only got the front cover off so far, and I'm getting scared. I have the factory workshop manuals and it lists about 20 special tools that are needed for this job. Do you really need them all or can I get it done with what is in my tool box? I really need to have it back together and my car running by tomorrow evening. Maybe I should just put the new gasket on the front cover and leave it at that. Anyone?

What are you trying to fix? Or are you just curious about what's inside.
If nothings wrong and you need it drivable, I'd vote for just putting the cover back on.

Not sure what problem you are chasing but I went through my transmission with none of the special factory tools. Follow the thread below for a very detailed explanation of the process....tons of detail and tons of great photos!

If you need to have it back together with the car running tomorrow night then you best put the nose cone back on and get to work reassembling the car! Diving into a transmission for the first time and being in a rush sounds like a very bad combination to me.

Thanks for the link. Maybe I'll post pics as I go on the 911 gearbox and see if somebody will walk me through it. It will have to wait until the morning as it is too dark now.
