A lap of Infineon in Cazzo
Hey guys,
Had a little fun up at Infineon (Sears Point for us old-timers) this past weekend in the F-car. Had a cool little in-car camera setup and got some laps on videotape. It was my first time on a track in a grocery-getter so it was a different experience, for sure. I put new Bridgestone Potenza RE050s on before the weekend. I must say, they pretty much suck. I had no front end grip at all. The car's electronics kept the back end under control nicely. The lapping was nice and comfortable, though. Its nice to lap at a comfortable pace; makes it so easy to hit all your marks. Anywho, enjoy! http://media.putfile.com/Ferrari-Challenge-Stradale-Lap-of-Infineon |
very sweet, i can never get over the sound of that car after seeing the 5th gear video with vicki.
mmmm...vicki's shirt says "dangerous curves" right across the bust...very nice...drool...vicki |
Nicely done Richard!
I can tell you understand what an apex is. Former bike racers always get it pretty quickly. I was watching with pride as you nailed the line really well each corner, and was waiting to see what line you would take through 8 and 8A. Then you just went straight and I thought WTF? Then I realized you guys were running the bypass that the bikes run. I've never run that configuration, but it looks less fun to me. But I guess it keeps the bike racers safer, since it makes turn 10 less of a nightmare. I would not want to race a bike at that track! BTW, car sounds sweet! |
Can we download that? I've been collecting in-cars from various tracks, and am a big "Sears" fan.

Hi Richard,
Is there some big Ferrari event going on in Northern Ca. I was out on my bicycle, yesterday, in the hills between Moraga and Castro Valley (S.F. bay area) and at least 75 F-Cars came through. Looked like they were participating in some sort of rally. Most Ferrari's I've every seen in my entire life, on the streets. |
Tyson - I raced my Aprilia at Infineon a few weeks ago. Lemee tell you.... that track is a blast on a bike! Its a workout, too. Major wrist pump. Not used to using the brakes after running at Willow lately.
das90kind - shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll email you a Quicktime file. Bill - Yes, Ferrari North America has a rally going on all week. I declined... $6,000 buys a lot of tires for my bike! |
Nicely done Richard. Thanks for sharing. I'd say that the new videocam setup works quite well!

No doubt it's a blast Richard. It's my favorite track. I'm just saying I wouldn't want to ride a bike there for fear of large immovable objects. You must have cojones grandes to push the envelope on a bike at that track. It's pretty terrifying in a car in the wet, I can tell you that! |
Man I got to get me one of those darn F-cars. One day one day... Thanks for making me jealous again!
|
Sounds just like the Kohler engine on my lawnmower. :p
Kiddin' ya. Very nice. I can only wish. jurgen |
You were shifting so fast I never saw your hands leave the wheel (is that cheating?).
I ended a potentially brilliant racing career in 1984 going into turn 10 forward, and coming out backwards. This was fun to watch, thanks. |
Ahhhhh.... the wonders of paddle shifting. Gotta tell you... not having to row through a gearbox on the track is an amazing feeling. Without a doubt, all racecars should have paddles. I know the purists will puke, but don't knock it till you try it :)

sweet at so many levels. love the sound.
thanks for the video, i am doing that track in a few weeks. i needed the visual reminder! i do turn 2 different (the one under the FRAM sign). i cannot wait. i got goosebumps. |
richard, could you email me the file too? i will be running sears for the 1st time in a couple weeks and would like to watch that about 100 times before i go. if so, please email to juanbenae@gmail.com
thanks. T |
Toby,
go to the AX forum and search for the video that has the Subaru filming, I think Larry Sharp posted the link. GREAT video! Not that yours isn't Richard, just that the other one shows the track better I think :) -Chris |
Excellent! Love the sound!
|
Richard, When I grow up I want 2 be just like you.:D
Christian |
cbeers - I couldn't find the video. I'd like to see it for comparison purposes.
Christian - I haven't grown up yet. That's the trick. :D |
Crap! You busted me Richard :)
I was searching too, trying to find it for Toby and I'll be d@mned if I can find it now!! it was a great video, I think the camera was mounted on the roof or wing giving an "outside" look........ Maybe I'll post asking for help locating it. to be continued :) -Chris |
Just had to get better at searching :)

Richard, who were you there with? First time I have seen a car run that configuration, with the Turn 9a/chicane at the end of the esses.
Tom |
Chris - That vid is incredible! Great quality!
Tom - The event was the Ferrari Challenge race, which is sanctioned by Grand Am. Same chicane is also used during the motorcycle races, although they move turn 11 up into the infield, before the standard turn 11. |
Thanks for sharing the video Richard. Really cool. Love the way the downshifts blip the throttle. The way my feet work (or more accurately, don't), probably the only way I'll ever hear one in my car is when I own something with paddle shifters!
Fun track isn't it? Hopefully I'll get there in a few weeks. Don |
I am planning on doing this again this spring, April 13-15. Would love to meet up with some of the NorCal guys. This time, I'll be sporting a Capristo Level 3 exhaust :)

Fwiw, he said it's a tricky track and you did a really good job! Purists-shmurists- My next track car will have paddle shifters. Very nice. |
Very nice video.
Oh, and best nickname for an F-Car ever!;) |
I want paddle shifting on my 915!!!!!!!!!! Great video........
|
We'll rally the Bay Area Pelicans (BAP) for a meet when you're in town Richard. Are you driving Infineon all 3 days? Or are you arriving on the 13th? Reason I ask is that there is a Trackmasters event at Thunderhill on April 13th and we usually attend those events as a group. Maybe come up a day early and join us? www.trackmasters-racing.com
