Winter project pictures

The car is much further along then these picutures but I thought I'd show you what I've done over the cold winter months.

Both front bumper mounts were replaced.
Shock tower area was rusted because the wind shield washer tube that is clamped in that area holds mud/ crap.
I got a donor piece and butt welded it in.

I replaced both door jamb panels, the passenger side rocker support and a small section of the outer rocker.
Everything was sand blasted during the process and protected after I was done.

test fitted the front fenders and alot of other stuff and then it went off to a plastic bead blaster to remove the old tired paint.

I've got the fenders/hood/decklid and doors ready to be blocked and painted.
I'll show you guys an update later if interested.

Nicely done Ron. Areyou re-painting it silver or doing a color change? WHat did you respray the gas tank with? Why is the replacement part "Swiss-cheesed"? Was it necessary for some reason? Bending? Fitment?

It's going to be Silver Metalic clear coat like it was originaly.
The repair piece for the shock tower was swiss cheezed because the germans love there spot welds. I had to drill them out.

When it was welded in, the holes were used for my new spot welds with a mig welder. then the outer edges were but welded it.

Nice work! ! !

Somehow the before pictures of yours look frighteningly familiar. INow if only I was as qualified to do the repairs I'd be all set. You want to make a trip out to Colorado? We've got great hiking, off roading, rafting, you name it, BUT you have to finish your work FIRST!

Congrats, I hope I can post an after pictures done as nicely as yours.

Rich

Thanks for the compliments. I still have alot ahead of me but I hope to get it back on the road very shortly.

As far as the actual work goes, it was not that hard to do. All you need is a welder and some practice.
Then stare at the car for a while untill you realize that it aint gonna get done till you dive in .

Before you know it, you've got the hang of it and things are getting done.
Just take you time and ask lots of questions on this wealth of information forum.
