under badge paint difference
i have recently gotten a guards red c2 deck lid that matches my 78 SC's paint better than i could have dreamed. problem is i removed the "Carrera 2" emblem and it remains there plain as day, just a bit red'r than the rest of the deck. i have heard, and did an extensIve search, 12+ pages using "sandpaper" as my search that if you wet-sand with a 2000, or so grit paper you can blend it some. now i generally would not ask for help in rubbing one out, Ive had plenty of experience there, but i was looking for a few pointers. here's where i think i go, please feel free to correct or redirect my efforts.
2000 wet paper in a 6 inch or so circular motion?? go 1-2 inches beyond the emblem scar? not too much sanding in between a wipe/clean up for inspection?? polish compound after with a touch of wax?? when will enough become too much sanding and start to damage?? any other pointers or experience would be grand. thanks t

I'm redoing a decklid for my car that previously had a "911S" badge. I think it was a 77. Since the car is going to be painted, it doesn't matter if the insignia is in the finish, but I've sanded with a scothbright pad and 400 paper almost through the paint and you can still see the "911S". Perhaps this car has it baked in more then usually since it is older but red is a very photoreactive paint color and I'm afraid thats what you up against. You can try 1500-2000 wet sanding and then polishing compound to start.

Toby, the first thing I'd try is polishing out the lid with a random orbital polisher and the appropriate polish.

Be carefull that you don't burn through the paint. Also....I assume that it doesn't have a clear coat?
Personally I would find your friendly neighborhood body shop and have it rubbed out....or you could put a vinyl graphic over....

I think Gerbil Wrangler would be perfect, provided that it's in the Carrera script of course
