1965 901/01 top-end rebuild (pics)

I thought I'd post a few pictures of the project. I just finished the top-end on my '65 911. I did the final assembly last week and was able to install this week. She fired off without a hitch. No leaks either. A big thanks to John Walker for all the machine work and various pieces to make this happen. The pictures are less than sharp as the digital broke a few weeks ago, so I scanned the photos from the SLR.

Here's the case post cam timing.

Pre-carbs with a couple of newly powder-coated sheet metal pieces.

RFI! (ready for installation). I chose to put in Webers vice rebuild the less than perfect Solex system. However, I left the mech. fuel pump attached for looks (plunger removed).

Here she is awaiting the new heart. I took her around the block a few times this week. Drives sweeet! I could hardly stop grinning.

Beautiful!! I love the old cars. I have a set of those lower valve covers. Totally forgot about them until I saw yours. Great work.

Very nicely done. Excellent.

What tensioners did you end up going with?

These are such beautiful engines and yours looks particularly so. They look great all cleaned up.

John, I believe they're 930 tensioners with collars. JW suggested them and re-built a set for me. I didn't want to use pressure fed tensioners. They would have ruined the look.
