brackets/fittings to install external oil cooler/lines
Hi,
I think I've got most of the pieces needed to install an external cooler on my '77. So far I've got the two brass lines, a trombone cooler, and two lines that are half metal, half rubber. Want to check and see what else I'll need before I start drilling. I think I'll need: 3 regular brackets 1 front bracket 1 rear bracket 8 rubber insulators (could I just use inner-tube from a bike tire?) 1 bracket to mount trombone cooler to inner fender. Is this a complete list? Are there any less expensive substitutes? Also, do horns have to be relocated to install the trombone? Thanks!

search up the thread I posted re oil lines and you'll see some p/n's and photos (for a '73 - may be close to yours) -- it is a month or or two old but no more.
yes, inner tube is just fine.

Call Chuck Moreland at Elephant Racing. Just tell him what you have and ask him to send you whatever else you need. And then post the detailed parts, counts, etc. here

hmmm, after looking at some of the prices for the simple brackets etc, I have decided to evade paying some of my Porsche-taxes.
The plan now is to use a cut up old bicycle inner tube as an insulator and to make some brackets like the real porsche ones using generic pipe hanging metal stripping from Home Depot ($5 for 100 feet). The pipe hanging stripping is only 28 gauge, so I plan to double or triple layer it, after bending it to fit, and will attach with stainless sheet metal screws. Will post if I run into any problems and will snap a few pics.

Try a dismantler for the brackets, I think they are worth it although you could hold the lines up with a different method. I did this upgrade to my car last year and used inner tube (from a motorcycle, thicker than a bicycle inner tube) to insulate the line from the brackets. Its quite straight forward and easy when using the factory stuff. I got my stuff from Dan Petchel (sp?) at Cars Inc. in NJ and it was quite reasonable.

there are plastic washers, well, cylinders that act as spacers for the rockers, you will need 5 brackets total, one to hang the tbone cooler (most of the tbones i have seen still have the bracket attached). i dont remember rubber isolator bushings on the tbone cooler. you horns do not need to be relocated. there may be one or two more brackets that hang up the lines in the rear of the wheel well. i would find used factory ones. the fit is way better.
