I'm sure others will have better pics, but here are a few of mine. Nice suprise to see the Zonda, Merc DTM car and the 959 sport.

Looks like the 959S made it out to the track.
Thats such a nice car... Did you get any pics of the blue Boxster Spec car? Thanks for sharing!

No Boxster pics. Sorry.
The Zonda and Merc DTM car made appearances on the track for some low speed laps at lunch. Great sounds. The 959 just did the pace lap and went back in the garage, but wasn't really at speed. ![]() ![]()

I worked for the owner of the 959 for a while. He is also running the BSR car this weekend we built while I was at the shop.

Do you know if the 959S was a Capena conversion?

Link to Quicktime clip. I wish we could have seen the Mercedes sportracer at speed. It was one like that that flipped (like the Porsche GT-1) and caused the change to the underbody rules in the Le Man series, no? TT

Nice video Tom!
Yeah that car retired late in the race, pulled off in the middle of the Nascar bank. The winner of the 4 hour Enduro was Blake Rosser by a couple seconds in his black suede RSR. I was the infield spotter for my friend’s car. It was a lot of fun and the Copp brothers drove a GREAT race. They never got a wheel off in 4 hours, no regrets. I helped by warning of overtaking traffic, “black car”. Calling local yellows and in one case at the 3 hour mark a full course yellow for debris on the track. We were at a disadvantage as our 310 hp car was in a class with 360hp 3.8s. The pole in our class qualified 3 seconds a lap quicker than us. But at the 3 hour mark we got a big break. Just as we went in for our second pit and driver change the track went full yellow for debris. We came out right behind the pace car pack just in time for the restart. We had got a lap back and were now in second place right behind our class leader. For the last hour they raced through traffic separated by about 50 yards. As a faster car came through it hit and nearly spun the car leading our class. Not the way to win but we were in a great position if the leader made any mistakes. As it was we finished 2nd in class. After 4 hours we finished only 4 seconds behind the class winning car that had out qualified us by 3 seconds a lap. ![]() I'm sure Jim will post some video this week. Like when the cup car cut a tire in the middle of Nascar T2 right in front of him. It looked familiar, I think it was similar to this cup car as seen in this old photo on the right? ![]() Last edited by ted; 05-21-2006 at 03:52 PM.. |

Still coming down
![]() What a blast!!! Team Good Copp, Bad Copp had outstanding race support!!! It made the drive E-Z. Jae and David from Mirage International put in some loooong hours making sure we were ready for the race. The car was set up beautifully...and the new motor Jae built has some SERIOUS grunt. We were gridded 14th at the start and I picked up at least four spots by T3. Got around a Ferrari and we battled for the better part of 8 laps. He just couldn't beat me in the corners. We'd come outta the hairpin to the inside chicane and be door to door. He was too wide to go two wide ![]() ![]() Having Ted as a spotter was indespensible...after 20 years in the control tower, this was just another day at the office. Make no mistake, some of those front runners were like low flying aircraft. ![]() My brother and I both drove clean, and a big shout out to the BSG group, very courteous in allowing us to try to get to the class leader. After 4 hours, we missed the podium by 3.91 seconds, to a 3.8 993RS. A great last race for the car, as my brother and I have each bought new track cars, so we can FINALLY see who's the better driver ![]()

Hi Kevin,
I was going to go yesterday but I was exhausted from a business trip to Chicago. I thought it was a driver's clinic for lowly drivers like me. Looks like a super high end auto-X. How did you do? (See you for the Big Bear run)

Luis - The Zone 8 (?) PCA club had an autocross in the parking lot. The POC had the tribute to LeMans enduro race on the California road course. Given the choice between watching autocross and race track activity, I chose the track. Had a good time, but the California track still isn't all that great. I took my car, but left her in the parking lot. Look forward to seeing you on the Big Bear run.
TT - I don't know much in the way of details on the Mercedes, so I'd be interested to hear details if anyone has them. I think that the car was run in the FIA GT series in 1997. Judging from some internet searching, the car may have even run at the Laguna Seca FIA GT races in 1997.
