Throttle Sticking

Hi guys,

I am having a problem with my throttle pedal sticking at idle in my 77 911s. It seems fine when I am in gear, with the clutch in the idle races anywhere between 2000 and 3000 rpm. I can pull the throttle pedal back and the idle will go back down. I think the problem could be the pedal bushings, because I had a leaking master cylinder about 8 months ago. There was brake fluid all over my pedals. Is there anything else I should look at? Thanks for the help!

While you're down there, I'd also check the routing of the clutch cable through the tunnel, to make sure it doesn't contact the throttle rod.

I would also look to see that where the connection from the pedal linkage entering the tunnel has no interference with the tunnel itself or as mentioned the clutch cable. Also check the area between the rear seats to see how the throttle rod/cable exits the vehicle to the bellhousing on the transmission. Good idea to check the bushings on this bellhousing on the transmission and up by the throttle body on the engine. I just replaced the bushings on the pivot joint next to the throttle body last night-they were disintigrated.

Start simple... check spring on engine end...replace if needed...also bushings...had this problem on one of my '76's. If thats not the case...the other suggestions are also excellent. Pretty simple setup. Should be easy to fix, but the engine end only requires a look. Let me know if I can offer and more info. Jess

Last year at a autocross I had my throttle stick wide open, it's amazing how much your butt cheeks can clamp down! Anyway on my car it turned out that the bushings in the transition plate from the throttle pedal to the tunnel linkage were shot, I guess 22 years of movement was enough for those bushings. Took my mechanic about 7 minutes to fix.
