Opinions - calipers new vs rebuilt ?

I have to replace my front A calipers on a 78 SC track car.

Check prices on New and rebuilt. I am lenaing toward NEW but hesitated because they are significantly more expensiove vs rebuilt - ($280 vs $50 each)

It is a track only car - anyone have experince with rebuilt? I know there are differences in what is "rebuilt" and I am worried that these cores are getting old - Can they replace the cylinder and pistons. How can they replace the pistions and sell for $50?

Thanks
Earl

PS - want to stay stock.

How bad are your existing ones? if the pistons aren't pitted and the bores rusty - I'd frankly spring for a rebuild kit and DIY. I redid all 4 corners for less than $50 in parts not counting fluid. - it's an o ring and a dust seal. Just hand tools, an air compressor to blow out the pistons (don't use your hand to catch 'em!!!) and a Motive power bleeder and you're on the road.

Don't seperate the caliper halves - just blow out the pistons.

Save some cash for more important stuff.

I'm with Randy P. I had calipers that were dragging on the rotor and made a bad noise after the car was warmed up. A $10 rebuild kit for each caliper solved a problem that I thought was going to co$t a lot of money.

Ditto on rebuilding, piece of cake, plenty of data here.. If you're going to spend the big $, upgrade to a 4 piston caliper, larger rotors, new wheels....

thanks for the replies.

I already did rebuild the calipers last year. The pistons were questionable - well that question has not been answered.

I was interested in exp with buyinh the so-called rebulit calipers. I must stay with stock calipers, etc.

thanks
Earl
