The track in Nebraska looks nice but Hastings is about a 9 hour pull and Pueblo is only 3 1/2 +/- hrs from Northern Colorado. The new Miller Motorsports Park in Utah is also a 9 hour pull but it is amazing, destined to be one of the finest tracks in the country at 4.5 miles long, 45' wide, 23 turns and a 3,500' long straight. Here are the websites for these to new tracks.
http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/ http://www.racemph.com/ Most of the new tracks seem to be large enough so that it can be split in 2 and run multiple events at the same time. Look at the Miller web site and click on track configurations to view the different layouts. |
I'll get the chance to be on hastings with the first group ever to run it in July.....
can report back after. brant |
I may be a bit biased since I won my first race here 30 years ago but I would check out Woterford Hills in Micigan as a great model to follow.

I did some talking today! Seems the land and $ could be a go?!? Not a done deal, but a positive one. If we are going to do it, we will do it right, road course, elev. changes..hey..and maybe go a little bigger than 3 miles? FYI, the with the land and $ really wants a moto track as well. Might have to throw that in there too. What do you think? I know there is endless work to be done yet, and IF it would get approved..its still a ways away...but a positive idea none the less. Lots of work to do, thanks for everything and keep it comming! Suggestions! Everyones two cents would make for a bad @ss track! Jesse

Well, I'd be happy to like...grab a shovel or something. :) I love your ambition! I

Jesse,
Here is the website for Wilson Motorsport Inc. This is the company that has designed several of the new track around the country. This is the same company that was going to design the previously proposed track here in Colorado before that deal fell thru. I think they can design a heck of a track and I think 3 miles would be fantastic. you woukld see me out there weekly. Are your plans to offer memberships and run it like motorsports park country club like these and many others? http://www.motorsportranch.com/ http://www.driveandrace.com/ http://www.wilsonmotorsport.com/default.htm |
I wish you the best of luck! I've been miserable since they closed three Denver-area tracks this year! Let me know if I can help...

I thought the whole purpose of closing PPIR was because another track was being built in Denver and did not want to compete with PPIR?? If no tracks are being built, I wonder if they will re-open PPIR? Also, here's a thought, see if they will sell PPIR, would have to be pennies on the dollar compared to building from scratch. It's too nice of a facility to sit idle and rot. I know it's small, but it's a track.. Please keep us posted. I have free time, so I could help wherever needed. cheers -Brad |
I heard from RMR that there's a very good chance PPIR may be opened on a limited basis to the local car clubs.
My understanding is that PPIR was bought by a developer with plans to demolish it and build houses. The owner was happy to sell it and planned to use the money to build a NASCAR track near Denver. I'm not sure if this is true or not. |
Brad, My understanding is that the company that purchased PPIR ownes several other nASScar tracks, both on the east and west coast and did not want PPIR to take away any scedule race dates from them. They purchased the track and sold off anything that was not tied down and have it back on the market with the stipulation that no motorsports can be run there ever again.
I think C.A.M.A. (Colorado Area Motorsports Association) should talk to the owners and see if they can purchase it for club racing only. Or better yet get the company to donate it and take it as a write off. At present I have not heard of any plans for a speed way to be built in Denver. But I would think it might pass now but who knows. |
Thanks for the update. I may take some of you up on your help. I am working very hard daily to see what can be done. Does anyone know how I can get incontact with the current owner of PPIR? Thats a great idea! I have lots of new information to report, but I am waiting to talk to a few more people before the posted update. Comments, Questions Suggestions, or if you want to help. klober23@hotmail.com

Jess, there was an article on PPIR in todays Springs Gazette. I believe it mentioned the owner. I won't be able to look again until tomorrow due to working tonight. Should also be on public record with the County Assessors Office. Typical someone wants to build houses there....like there are not enough already. Oh, and as a reference point, the article mentioned PPIR cost 35 million to build.

Brad, thanks for notification! After reading your post, I located and read that article. I have sent a e-mail to the articles author. Will post a update soon! Jesse

Update 6/3
Update!
I have met and talked with a few more Northern Colorado interested parties. Lots of positives. I have found out lots of beneficial information. Some of which was told in confidence and I cannot post at this time. Some of the groups of people/clubs/enthusiasts that have been working at building a track in Northern Colorado have similar interests as mine, but yet more than different. Most of these more than able to succeed, but are geared toward what I refer to as a more "closed door" track. NOT completely, but mainly open to a limited group. (i.e club, select cars, or group). These tracks will rely on the governing body and event fees to produce money for upkeep and bills. My idea is to be more of a "commercial track", but very strong support for all(i.e groups, clubs, weekend drivers, you name it. I would like the track to profit to be able to expand, help to community, and give back to the local drivers. Although profit is brought up, its more than important to me to see low spectrum fees. Keeping things as inexpensive as possible for the driver/clubs/groups would be my goal. Profit is also a must, to keep the correct people around, maintenance, and expansion. PPIR- This was another great idea brought up here. I have done lots of research and talking to key people about this track. Again, some things said in confidence, for now. First there are a lot of rumors, lots of what I have read and/or been told was incorrect. A fact is, the track was to be sold (what could be) and the rest demolished. The true use of the land thereafter was kind of tricky to come by. Whats the chance anyone can get the track from the current owners? I am working on that, been told a few things, but since just not one man owns it, this is more of a time process. I maybe able to answer this question shortly (next week). More information to follow late next week when I get some "for sure" answers. It hard to post the "maybes", as people unintentionally or helpfully interfere. I still feel there is more than enough interest in the area to support a commercial track. From what I have found, other tracks are taking a different angle, which I feel is a positive thing. Feel free to e-mail! klober23@hotmail.com |
Thanks for the update! Looks like you have been doing your legwork for sure. I appreciate your efforts, it's tough to wade thru theory and speculation :)

I'm not fan of Wilsons designs...they all seem to be raius this, radius that. Too sterile.
IF you get this gig rolling, and thats a huge IF, LOL. ....try to make the track have corners that decrease or increaase or are double, even triple apex deals. And having them go off or on camber in the middle is cool too, And if you can crest a hill or start climbing a hill mid corner, all the better. And the more blind corners, the better. That's what seperates teh men from the boys. At the end of the straight, have a definate corner...sharp but wide enough..then have a corner that goes in teh opposite direction. This way, a guy can defend the classic pass by hanging on the outside, and then he's inside for the next corner. That makes for great racing. Mid Ohio, and Lime Rock have such set ups. Good luck. If you get rolling and need assistance, contact the folks who built Buttonwillow, or the New England Region SCCA who are currently trying to build their own track. It is a VERy daunting process! And trying for profit is tricky, as the big events that bring in teh $$$ are often frowned upon by local towns, who just want to be left alone. You'll face hearings on traffic, and drainage, and so on, and if they think you'll indrease traffic, they'll require you to widen their roads, LOL. Finally, long tracks are great, but the biggest issue for racing is staffing a long track. It takes many more workers to staff a track for a race than it does for a DE event. 3 miles with lots of corners needs 40 flaggers or more I bet. Flaggers are in short supply these days. |
