Quick Question about SSI

I have an 81 SC and have the chance to get a deal on a set of thin, not-thick flange SSIs. Is it a big deal for me to use these or should I wait for a thick-flange set?

SHouldn't be a big deal - you'll have more exhaust stud showing, that should be about it. If I'm dead wrong, someone will be along shortly to correct me, but I'm pretty sure it's ok.

So, I wouldn't need spacers or have to swap out studs? How does $800 including lines sound?

Some people have had to use some washers as spacers. Depends on what type of studs are installed. Fully threaded or the kind that are threaded on both ends but have that non-threaded space in the middle. If you are getting a good deal, I wouldn't worry about it if you need to use a few washers.

Repeat. How dows $800 w/ lines sound?

You won't be able to use barrel nuts, you'll have to use open nuts (nylon or copper lock nuts).

considering they're a grand for a new set, plus ~$150 for the lines, it's not a screaming deal. Then again, it is 30% off for not much extra work. Are they in good shape? You shouldn't have a problem getting $800 for the SSIs alone if you decide to go new/thick flange in the future.

Thanks.

You could also use metric coupling nuts which are essentially longer nuts to span the extra length of the stud. Try McMaster to source them. The less stud exposed to the environment, the better.
