...CLUTCH CABLE?

I stepped in the clutch and felt a "pop"...and the clutch cable either broke or...? Everything looks ok under the footboard, but there is no connection to the usually quite heavy clutch spring and the pedal, which just went straight to the floor.
I really hope that I didn;t break anything internal ( clutch fork/etc.) Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I'd jack up the rear and take a look where the cable connects to the clutch arm under the tranny. Maybe with some creative placement of lights and a mirror you might be able to see in the view hole in the bell housing of the tranny near the starter and get a glimpse of the clutch fork.
