Oil Change precleaners

On my other cars I occasionally add a quart of oil system cleaner before changing the oil. With my 911, there is a lot of oil in the lines and cooler that doesn't drain when you change the oil. If I added a quart of cleaner before the oil change, wouldn't this remain in the system, diluting the new oil?

Good thinking on your part. As far as I know, Porsche has never recommended oil additives.

I'm w/Paul on this one.

I'll use Techron a couple of tanks before my oil change.. that's all.

Yes it is. But many on this forum feel that it's a good idea to change your oil after you use it as it could change the composition of the oil. Many support that claim by noting how you can smell the techron in the oil after you use it.
as far as flushing your oil system goes, I wouldn't worry much about it. A few minutes of the new oil circulating and it's all the same again.

Here is the problem with engine cleaners. What varnish/sludge it doesn't dislodge completely, it will certainly loosen. So you run the risk of the dislodged junk becoming completely lose and traveling through your oil galleries. I don't know of any car company that recommends any type of oil additive. Some say that full synthetic oil has a cleansing efffect when used the first time. that would be a better way to go.
