Early Car, Late Engine Oil Plumbing Issue
Hi folks,
I've run into an oil plumbing issue with my project. I am putting a 3 liter from a 79 911 into my 69. The oil tank on the 69 has threaded male fittings for the oil lines. The engine-mounted BEHR Cooler on the 79 engine has a press on/hose clamp male end sticking out. So, I have threaded on one side (to a 30mm thread), and a press on on the other. How have others adapted to this? Currently, I have a 90 degree 30 mm to AN adaptor I can use, which I can get a barbed fitting for, but it's only about a 3/4" ID hose, which is too small to press onto the BEHR Oil Cooler. Any thoughts? Thanks, mto

Two methods.
1. install the early engine oil cooler on the 3.0. 2. cut the firewall and install the later oil tank. This method makes it easy to install later oil cooler lines and thermostat. You will want to supplement the cooling for the 3.0. The engine oil cooler will not be enough in the summer. I guess it would be possible to weld late fittings on the early oil tank but that is a lot of work.

You an use an early style oil cooler, or a late style oil tank to obtain the proper match.
You might also check with Clewitt Engineering. I think he might have some sort of adaptor.

Thanks guys. I'd like to avoid removing the oil cooler as the engine is installed and wired at this point. The drag about replacing the tank is that I've already completely flushed and POR-15'ed the 69 Oil tank. But, I'll do what I have to, I suppose. Chuck, how do I reach Clewitt engineering?

It looks like the later Oil Tank is the way to go, so maybe I'll try to find one locally first.

I went ahead and got the later model oil tank, which requires a little slicing and dicing of the firewall. I'll post some pics to document if anyone cares...
